I am looking at buying a new seat for my 06 softail standard,I had the original one re-upholstered and it is good for long trips but doesn't look that good.Just wondering if anyone (with a softail) has tried the badlander by harley or the lepera sillouette?? If so,how does your back handle long stints and what does your pillion think, if you have one.The seat that came with the bike was terrible so I dont want to buy one that is going to be that uncomfortable. Thanks in advance for any help.

Check out john moorehouse.  he can probably do everything you want to your current seat

ph 0732453979 he is at capalaba.

He redid the seat on my wide glide and the difference is unreal.

    Regards,  Mick

I had a barebones snakeskin seat on my previous softail, rode it to Brisbane and back from Tassie. Looked good sitting low but as mentioned earlier, like sitting on a brick. Don't expect to do anymore than 600km per day with plenty of stops. I have a badlander on my new softail, so far I've only done 400km in one go but it's nowhere near as painful. I'm riding it to Brissy again in April, it has the looks with the comfort.

the old one was a '05 standard and the new is '08 standard. for two up riding I always put the standard seat back on.

just looked it up in the parts book and HD actually call it a badlander seat. the part # is 51397-00A but check with them if you decide to get one as they change year to year.

Are you saying the original seat is more comfortable than the badlander?? I had my original seat re-upholstered by john moorehouse in Brisbane and I just got off the phone to him and he has offered to shape it anyway I want it free of charge, can't ask for more than that.

Peter, the original seat is more comfy. The badlander is not as comfy but will do. I'd keep the original for pillon passengers, would't hack into it.

Ok thanks gsh,I didn't like the original at all,I had to keep pulling myself forward on the bike so it was hard on my back!!  If the badlander is less comfortable i will see how i go getting this one played with before i spend anymore money. Thanks for your help
