forks out of alignment

A mate who owns a 07 Fatty was complaining to me today that when he looks at his bike front on the wheel doesnt look straight. Also his tyre wears more on one side, so much so that he recently got a new front tyre fitted and after a 200k run the little rubber nodules had not worn off the centre yet. There is also less of a gap between the front guard mount from one side to the other.

Could the forks have been incorrectly fitted/ adjusted when they assembled the bike??

    Thanks.

hi, on the fatie the front wheel looks to 1 side but its not the mudguard spacing is whats of centre , to check put bike up on blocks vertical, check vertical with sprit level across the frame under the seat , check with plum bob under steering head the 1/4" allen bolt that holds the brake line in place under the bottom tripple tree is the centre of the steering head post ,
centre of tyre should be in the middle or use an 1mte long straight edge from under bottom tripple tree ,
all tyres on motorbikes rub more on the right off side of centre line because of the camber on the road for water run off no road is dead flat
race tracks don't have camber they are tilted slightly positive camber on corners & the straights are slightly tlited inboard or outboard depends what way they need the water to run off .
but best to check that wheel spacers are around the right way , ive seen guys mix the spacers up when fitting tyres , esp on 1996 & latter because theres no speedo drive & they don't mark them, + also check the rear for aliginment + belt tension , cheers

It's my Fatty Shfunky is talking about.

Thanks Beeza some interesting facts on those vtwin links. Bottom line though....."what a bitch". The offset on the 07 Fatty was explained by Harley Davidson US  as nessesary because of the introduction of the 200 rear wheel. Interesting though how it was remedied on the 08 model?!?!

I'm really pissed off with my Harley dealer who I rang the other day to tell them of my problem (thinking at that time it was only my bike) and they seemed suprised as well and want me to bring it in (160klms away) to look at it. Wheras if they knew their shit they would have simply said, "no that's a purpose built design in the 07, because of the new 200 rear wheel, blah blah blah" and other Harley generated propaganda to fob off the customer.......not happy.

So if you own a 07 Fatty and haven't noticed the offset front wheel (and not just the guard, I've measured from each side of the rim to each fork slider, a difference of nearly .400") go out and have a good look at your pride and joy.....sorry for the shit news....
