Wheel bearings and high pressure cleaners

My last service I had to get the front wheel bearings replaced (under warranty 1100km) Take note!

Service manager reckons high pressure cleaners are usually the the cause as the water gets blasted into the bearing seals.

I don't use a high pressure cleaner but just thought this would be something to put out there for thoughs of you that do.

My 09 fxdsc rear wheel bearings had to be replaced at 20,000ks, When I asked why they had not lasted was asked if I rode in rain.Apparently these bearings don't like rain.

I've heard to stay away from high pressure cleaners, but rain sounds like BS...

I've never used High Pressure cleaners on my bike but my bearings were also crapped. This is only after a few hundred k's after I had my wheels/tires changed by Harley as my usual mechanic couldn't do it. Took it for a service to my usual guy Andy (AA Custom Cycles) and he noticed that the wheels and in turn the bearings were overdone which caused extreme-wear. Lucky he checked before the bearings got worse...

Personally I dont accept the high-pressure cleaner excuse or rain for that matter and in fact I've seen with my own eyes the Harley dealer use a high-pressure cleaner to clean their bikes...

The rear wheel bearings packed it in on my 2010 Sportster at about 20,000 km. I asked the HD dealer service guy why this would happen & he said Harley Davidson were & still are using crap Chinese bearings in wheels. He also said when you change your tyres then you should also replace the wheel bearings. Nothing lasts anymore these days!

Crap bearings sounds right jap bikes have used sealed bearings forever without these issues. But then they use a seal as well as a sealed bearing wich would explain the high pressure water issue. I fitted cheap ass chinese bearings in a car once they lasted about 5000 k,s and locked the bearing on the stub and stuffed it.

I'm having to get my rear wheel bearings changed after 12000k's
Had the tyres changed and noticed the bearings wouldn't turn.

Same story, was asked if I used a pressure washer. Never have though.

01 FXD with over 100,000k stillno original wheel earrings , sold bike to a mate still no bearing problem.

Has skinny stock wheels they used in 01 19" front 16" 150 rear I think might be the big fat wheels they use now more load on bearings or maybe different make of bearing? The 01 had sealed. Ball bearings
