I have been asking questions all over the forum about getting rid of the cam chain tensioners in my 06 Softy and going to gear drive or the later tensioner set up and some cams which will probably work out to a cupla grand either way. I was talking to a shop today and the guy said to give him $4000 and he would trade mine on a 2009 softy and I can put all the stuff I have bought for mine onto the new bike ?? Seems to me that it is a bargain, what do you guys think ?? I always said when I bought my first Harley it would be my last, but this seems almost too good to pass up, what do you all think ?? Oh yeah, my rego is due as well so thats $500 I have to part with as well as the $2000.
Why do you want to change your cams and make all the other changes? $2000 for new cams and tensioners!!!!!!! In my opinion few people ever really need the extra get up and go, its seems that there is a misconception that as soon as you buy an HD you gotta change everything! Big bore kits, cams, pipes, carbs etc. Do you really want to get caught up in a big pissing contest that your never gonna win.Listening to some guys they know all the brands and specs and ride like an old fart like me. These are only my opinions .
What would i do? i`d put that money into a project and build something, so that way you`ve always got a stock reliable ride and a hot slick one off custom to play with.
Or even better restore an oldie, pan or shovel.
Thanks Steve, does it matter what brand and what if you buy an after market black one ??
Sounds like you have done well. Looking forward to seeing the pics. Well done.
I've gotta say the guys at Sunshine Coast Harley (I dealt mainly with John the Manager) went out of their way to make buying the new bike a pleasurable experience. John never made me feel like he was in a hurry to get anywhere else and wanted to do everything he could to make buying the bike stress free, which is a hell of a lot more than I can say for the last dealer I bought my bike from. I will be happy to take the bike back for servicing during the warranty period and if I continue to be treated like a valued customer I will keep dealing with them. So far they have been honest (I double check everything that is told to me by any dealer because of past experiences) with no bullshit and eager to please which is something you don't see at dealers much anymore. I hope that everything remains this way because it means someone out there is trying to do the right thing by their customers. Time will tell.
I doubt it very much, just out of curiosity (i wasn't thinking of selling) a couple of months ago I asked Morgan & Wacker what they would give me as a trade and the response made me laugh at first and then made me angry.
I was told about $18000 from Wackers but I hadn't mentioned keeping the extras on my bike, might as well buy a jap bike if we are gonna get that sort of trade, I would never of sold it if I lost that much money. I remember Phil the salesman at Wackers telling me in 06 that I won't be sorry buying a Harley because they would always look after me if I wanted to trade in the future, I also remember thinking to myself at the time - WHAT A LOAD OF BULLSHIT, do these guys really believe we fall for this crap.
