Does anyone that does a lot of riding in and around mountain ranges think that with the later 5 speed trannys (I own an 06 softail) 2nd gear is much too far from 3rd when trying to hold corner speed ?? Has anyone changed the gear ratios on their bike because of this, if so how did it work out and what changes did you make ??

Any idea of cost Steve ?? I was hoping that someone had changed the gearing in their 5 speed and could give me some feedback.

Ok Scotty, i just need to ask a silly question now (sorry) what do you mean change the primary ?? Are you talking about changing only 2nd gear or all primary gears 1st to 5th ?? I know very little about transmissions, please explain. Any idea of cost ?? I have amended the above post as I meant to say 2nd is too far from 3rd, not 1st to 2nd being too close. WHOOPS I've had a hard day.

I agree with Scotty 3.37 primary is best way. i learnt the hard way HD gears are best!

anything Rev Tech goes in the garbage! Jims not sure of, Bakers make good gear box parts too.

Gotchya, I do know what the primary is ScottyI just thought you were talking about changing the gears. Ok, I will think about doing it that way but what about changing 2nd gear itself ? Is that possible or would it just cost too much ?? I dont like the difference between the gearing (2nd to 3rd) and what you are describing would change all the gearing which would help overall but it would not solve the problem when having to change between these two gears,unless I am misunderstanding ??

I would like the bike to pull better but it amazes me that no one else gets pissed of at the difference in gearing from 2nd to 3rd ?? It just does not allow you to keep corner speed. I just don't think that when they decided on the gearing in this box that anyone took it for a ride further than the cafe down the road ?? It just stands out like dogs balls when you get on a twisty road. I rode my mates 6 speed the other day and the difference is night and day (pulling power aside) you can change anywhere in the box and there is absolutely no drama with gear ratios.
