I,m with Western QBE. They were the cheapest as long as you satisfy all their special conditions. e.g. locked garage, over 40, single rider, less than 5000k's per year etc.
I haven't had to make a claim yet so I don't know what they would be like to deal with in that regard....(I hope I don't have to make a claim).
I think the premium is around $480 per year with $500 excess for a market value of $30K's. I tried Shannons a few years ago for the old bike but they were quite pricey, they may have changed though.

    Hi,

I've been with Arista insurance (only for those who are over 40) and they were fantastic when a stupid bitch ran a red light and wrote off my bike, plus certain parts of my body. I'm now with Shannons as Arista were too expensive for a Harley, and they have a great policy for your household effects, including garage cover for your tools and spares etc, plus they're cheaper tham QBE. There's no crap about distance travelled etc, worth a call.

I've gone with 'Insuremyride.com.au' , they were the cheapest here in NSW(although I think they are underwritten by QBE), also got a discount for doing a Advanced Skills and Development course, about $40 annual, so it was just over $400 for a new Dyna Streetbob, no limitations on K's but only average 3 to 4 days riding a week. Goonline and get a quote to see what your up for maybe.

How would they know I rode more than 3 to 4 days a week anyway, unless they were continually watching me, and it's an average anyway, they would have to watch me for 6 to 12 months!!, wouldn't happen. If it's your main mode of transport you will be paying more me thinks.

I'm with Western QBE and the trick I learn't was to ask who gets discounts and the answer was if your in the Dealers HOG club or the military motorcycle riders association you'll get a 15% discount that got me down to 390 for the year locked garage, over forty, single rider and less than 4,000kms per year. Hope this helps. They ended up easily the cheapest for the coverage.

I would think it would be impossible to keep under 4000k's!!!!, I dont ride a lot compared to other bike riders and I've done over 5000k's since last September, so I expect to do 10 to 12000k's annually.

I got my bike in late October and I've done well over 6000 km by now. Conservative estimation is approx 15000 km per year.

I guess the thing with putting restrictions on your KMs is fine if that is what you expect to do in a year. Sometimes things change (like you just cant get off ya bike because ya love riding it) so then as your get close to your limit just ring them up and tell them. You will probably have to pay extra for the additional coverage but at least you are covered.

I have found with most insurance companies is that if you are up front and honest with them you wont have any hassels. Try to hide something or bullshit them they will screw you around till the cows come home and find reason to not pay up.
