after craking another JONNIE it got the better of me and i did some searches

    NO THEY HAVENT FIXT IT

I was riding my one month old Street Glide with 1600 miles this afternoon and had just exited off the highway. While down shifting on the exit ramp, I could'nt find 3rd gear. It finally thunked in gear and a couple seconds later at 25 mph, there was a loud crash in the transmission and the back wheel locked up. I was able to keep the bike upright until sliding to a stop. After much rocking back and forth and screwing with the shifter, the bike cranked and I was able to drive it up on the trailer my wife brought later. The transmission sounded like it was crushing gravel as I rode on the trailer. Up until that point, the bike never had any '07 5th gear noise or otherwise. While waiting on her to show up, I pulled the transmission filler plug to take a peak with a flash light. THE DIPSTICK WAS MISSING. My questions for the techs are:

    1) How much damage could the dipstick do to the gear teeth, gear shafts, and crankshaft from the sudden stoppage?

    2) If the service manager says it only needs the pan cleaned out and some fresh fluid, is there any way to force them to inspect the gears and crankshaft?

    ..............................................................................

How many people on this forum have ever heard of the tranny dipstick breaking off on a Harley, I haven't read or ever heard of that happening but it probably has

    ..............................................................................

I've read of it happening lots of times from years ago til now. Lots of guys cut off the dipstick and buy another one to check the lube with. There's never been a recall before and there won't be one now.

THIS SOUNDS LIKES A GOOD IDEA
