Has anyone been hit with this charge when ordering parts from the states
I received some parts from the states the other day delivered by DHL.Everything was fine.
Got a letter in the mail today from DHL stating that I owe them $47.30 for a Quarantine Processing Fee. Have checked on the net and apprently DHL do this alot. Its a fee DHL charge for Customs to check random packages.
Im gonna ring DHL tomorrow and find out where I stand.
Has anyone else had this happen. If so what was the outcome.Did you have to pay...
Thanks for any feedback .

Tell them that since you had an agreed rate to send the item this "extra charge" will have to be checked to determine whether it is "fair and reasonable" and you won't pay this until this has been established.
Then tell them that your "Hidden Cost Processing fee" is $55 including GST and that as soon as they put this amount into your nominated account you will undergo the rigorous and in depth process of validating their fee. This could take up to two months but they can rest assured that you will properly investigate it and advise an outcome.
I would then go on to tell them that this may not be the only fee in relation to this process (which is more information than they provided you with, since they did not advise you about the possiblity of the extra quarantine charge) and that there maybe "Search Fees", "Document Handling Fees", "Government and Statutory Charges" "Postage and incidentals" etc......
After you have advised them of this information verbally, send it in writing to the appropriate department with an invoice for your 1st fee. If they don't pay in 7 days, send them an invoice for a "late fee". Include in your initial letter to them the possible fees they could incur, maybe give them a fee cost structure (once again more than they did for you).
What is the point of all this bulshit? Just because they put a figure on an invoice and sent it to you doesn't make it payable. As you can see above!
Fuq em! Maybe all this run-around might put them off. It would certainly cost them a great deal to recover $47.
DHL did something similar to me 10 years ago. I never paid it and havn't heard since.
Maybe the next time I go into the US they'll be waiting for me at Customs.

the greedy tenacles are reaching everywhere , no dought it won't get any better !!!!!!!!
Rang DHL today and asked what the fee was for.
Reply was that Customs randomly open packages and that DHL needs to recoup the cost.
Told them that my package had not been opened and surely cutoms would have put a note or sticker stating that my package had been opened for Inspection.Asked them for a invoice from Customs so I could insure it was my packge that was opened. They didnt have one.
How do I know Im not just being ripped off , and DHL is not just trying to make more money out of me
What do you think I should do.
It should have a customs sticker on it if they did in fact open it.
What do they do if you dont pay it? You have the goods.
Unfortunately. I Have had that before, they can charge it if the think something has to be opened to be inspected if they think it may contain dirt or plant material. eg second hand parts
I have only had it once in ten years of importing vintage parts, I don't think there is much you can do about it
another thing they like doing on express items, is booking it as returned to base, no one home when someone was home all day
their excuse for not sending it for a couple of days if they don't have anything coming your way
I have this hapeen 6 times over the last 18 months
