Hi all.Posted this in the softail section but thought i would also post here. This is my first post and in the next month i will be chasing down my first Harley. My background has been dirt bikes and some road bikes but all have been jap. I loved them but time for what i always wanted. I have ridden plenty of harleys but never my own and that is about to change. I was lucky to make some money with a aussie muscle car lately so im putting some off my morgage and some towards a softail.I am not dead set on year or model but i know how i want it too look.I want it

Lowered,Western bars, foward controls,Billet rims with atleast 240 tyre. Single seat with the hugging short style front and rear guards. Not sure on exhaust style yet.

As far as the bike goes i would like a 2000 model or newer and at the moment im thinking either a softail standard or nightrain.Im willing to spend around the $30,000 mark. Now some questions. Im very new to harley ownership so any help would be appreciated.

Now to fit a 240 rim/tyre on the back.do i need a wider swing arm?

What price range for a set of rims and swing arm if needed? Im allowing $6,000. Is that enough

Where is the best place to source, bars, lowering kit, exhaust, fwd controls?. I live south of sydney.

If i decide to rake the front a bit more and extend forks. What cost am i looking at roughly and who should i see to do it.

Ok thats all i can think of at the moment. Anything you think i should know pleaselet me know.As stated im fairly new to this and dont claim to be a know all and i will take all advice on board.

    Thanks

welcome to the forum devo76. Nightrain definitely gets my vote.
If you want to fit 240+ tyre on the back, I suggest the heartland kit. These guys know they stuff and most of the wide rear conversion you see on the street are done via one of
the hearland conversion kits. Checkout the website below. I have inquired about the 250 conversion kit for softail custom about 3 month ago and the cost for the complete kit was around 5k.

In relation to other parts and accessories I found the genuine HD parts are of high quality compared to some other 3rd party manuf.
If you want to save some considerable cash, I suggest you mailorder your parts directly from the states. There are several US-based HD shops that will happily post stuff to Aus at a reasonable price. Zanotti motors and Chicago Harley are better two.
Can't help you much with the rake'd front end, but hopefully one of boys here will have the answer you looking for.

Goodluck with whatever you get and please post some pics when you do.

    Cheers

IF YOU RAKE THE FRAME YOU HAVE TO GET A SET OF RAKED TRIPLE TREES TO BALANCE  THE FRONT END. THATS A START , BUT TO BUY THE CORRECT TREES YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT RAKE IN THE FRAME ,HEIGHT OF THE FRONT WHEEL,HEIGHT OF THE RAKED FRAME THERE'S MORE TO KNOW THAN  I'M RAKING MY FRONT END .

    GET THE PICTURE.

I understand there is more involved. Thats why im asking you guys. I want plenty of info before i take any steps that cost money. But to be honest. Raking the front end will probably a bit further down the track.

    Thanks for the info.
