Anyone changed rocker covers on a 96ci, I want to put chrome ones on, I know it's easier with the HD low profile allen keys and also need a dogbone to help re-torque but is it worthwhile taking all the rocker gear off to get to the rocker housing plate or should I just change the covers and leave the housing plates till I have to do other maintenance that requires their removal.......Scotty ??

Thanks Scotty, the bike is a 07 Streetbob, I have a manual for the torque sequence ect but a list of gaskets and o-rings would be helpful. I can get a dogbone from work (we use them on aircraft) but am unsure what changes to the torque settings are when using it.

Cool, makes it easy. Just a little more info mate, do I follow the manual verbatum, like dropping the pushrod covers ect ect, the manual assumes you are doing a full top end service so are there any shortcuts and would there be any tips in your post on changing cams like the paperclip trick for the pushrod covers?

The HD parts are fn expensive, I saw a complete set of upper and lower for $179US plus $95 postage on ebay from bkrider, emailed him and he says the chrome is show quality, he sells a lot of other Harley stuff, what do you reckon?

Hey Scotty, pardon my ignorance mate but why would I need a  gasket for the primary and derby cover ect to do the rocker covers?

Hi Scotty, part number 18535-99b doesnt come up, 18535-99 comes up as an anti-rotation pin, is that what it's supposed to be?

Hey Scotty, finally got the rocker covers (upper and lower), also got the lifter covers and all gaskets, all up $500 (aus)delivered.  Going to do the job in a couple of months when the warranty expires and I finish the house extensions. I have a question for now though and was wondering if it would be a good idea to upgrade my cams while I had the covers off and the rockers off. I have intensions to do it some day and I thought maybe while I'm doing the rocker covers it would kill 2 birds with one stone.

If so can you recommend a cam for my Streetbob that will give me a little more grunt down low to midrange. I know the topic has been done to death but I value your input mate. And would I be stretching the friendship by asking you to put a name to each of the o-rings and gaskets you listed, some are obvious and some not.

    Thanks again.

Hey Scotty, just been going through your cam swap posts and wanted to know can I re-use my original pushrods. Also my bike has done only 20,000k's , would I need to change the cam bearings?

I also noticed you using a paperclip to hold the lifters in place once the pushrods have been removed, but how do you do it when replacing the lifter covers?

    Cheers

Hey Scotty, just priced the cam installation and removal tools.........farrck......US$400.....plus another $34 for the cam locking tool. Would it be foolish not to change the cam bearings? Might be cheaper getting the job done by a professional, or even cheaper to fly you over here for a working holiday with your tools
