Hi Guys ,I am thinking of going to Sturgis this year.Has anyone been and is it worth the trip and any ideas on do's and dohnt's

just do it...and don't do anything you wouldn't do at home...which proberly wouldn't leave much

vmax hi, i went in 07 took a 28 day tour had a ball the roads are like silk, the nat parks are amazing riding tours (u dont need any guides)  do,s are doit , donts are really not an issue the people are xtremley frendly wot else you wanna know??? Ratz

Had some mates go over about 2 years ago and had a ball. Hired some bikes and went right across the country. Coutry side was amazing and even saw some wild bears and cubs on the trip. Recon they will go over again when they save some more money and recover from the last trip.

An make sure you get a National Parks season ticket that will save you a bit, to get to Sturgis you can ride for days in nat parks you will think your tripping, the camera shud be used alot i shot 1200 frames take the time to stop an shoot wit you in it like" you are now in Nevada speed limit 60mph at nite 70mph daytime" there is alot of goofy things that will need to be kept on film and of course you will wander around muttering to yourself "only in America" Mate an i rode down the West coast to Mexico  thru the nthrn fog which started nth of the border we picked it up after passing thru Seattle it is a sausage roll lookin animal that stretches for hundreds of miles down the western seabord ( u will need thermals) We were in the summer of 07 came out of the Montana plains (nice an catchy, stroker!!) ahem, at about 35C and hit this fuckin fog which stoped us dead in our traks off wit the ridin t/shirts on goes the thermals the singlet, tshirt long sleeve ridin shirts, jackets, vests skull masks, Fil put on his lippy an mascara, whoops ontour stays on tour, an off you go, ride for an hour an take it all off, you only have to slide off the coast by a mile an your bak in the heat, vry strange an dam cold,anyway mor bullshit later, regards that Fuckin rat       PS are u hirin yer scooter????  who ya goin with??

Thanks Ratz for all that input.My problem is that I will only have a week so I would fly straight to Sturgis for the week and then fly straight home so no time to cruise around the US so was mainly trying to find info on the Sturgis week if its worth the trip for just the week.. I would hire a bike there as I am told thats the best way to go.At the moment I am going alone which doesnt bother me to much as I am sure there will be lots of people there to hook up with.I dont know if its the place to take the missus !! or go it alone (she doesnt read this forum so its free speech time ..lol) Maybe if anyone has had experience with where to stay,the best day rides and hiring ect.

vmax, ratz ere av been away for a week, was gunna say that for a week at Sturgis i think we worked out that we would fly into LAX an then fly to Jackson, Jackson hole, and rent a scooter from there its only a kwik blast up to Sturgis from there and you get the bit of prep ride into Sturgis which is part of the hype to watch 4 or 5 hundred thou people on bikes, car an trailer wit bikes, trucks wit bikes, crazy people on bikes yadayada al converging on Sturgis, it reminded me of the gud ol days of riding up to Bathurst for Easter wknd or Broadford in da bad ol daze, or you kud try Rapid city for hire which will be fairly packed out as it is only 1/2 hr away from Sturgis. Accom kud be difficult but my suggestion wud be to go by tent an air mattress, you can grab one at Jackson or Rapid city for fukal and leave it behind, camp in town it will be hot like warm/hot like any summer day in Mt Isa,  an then you can walk to the big pubs like One Eyed Jacks etc, I didnt no yor time frame an for a trip like this i think two weeks wud be bettr of course, as you lose time in transit gettn there, rides around Sturgis will be great but depend on ware you go, i/we had a great ride out to Devils tower just a kwyet ride with only 100thou other folks and the next day we went to Mt Rushmore with a couple mor folks at around 200thou, and thats all cool but lotsapeeple, I found the seppos extremly friendly an of course they are all gud ol boys lots having dun tours of Vietnam IraQ, an Afganistan if u no wat i mean, the other days will include the drags an bike shows both international an local USA an you have to go to the burnout pit at the Full Throttle Saloon an have a beer an watch the animals perform its great to see two BossHoss V8,s front wheel to front wheel litin it up i think theyr 427,s this year??? so have i culered in yer dream a bit??? an of course its only $$$$$  cya later from that fukin rat NO FLAMERS

Thanks Ratz for all the input,yep sounds great and I know what you mean about the seppos,great friendly people but there the greatest (well they think) I have been there a few times.I know what you mean about 2 weeks but I have my own small businessto run so time is critical to me.Camping would be a good option if I go alone which will prob be the case as its to short a trip for her.Of course she would want a soft bed ect ,but anyways wiuld rather go alone.Sounds like a million and one people there,does that meanyou cant get near the good pubs for a drink or listen to a band?How hard is it to rent wheels ?what sort of cost ect?anyway if ya get time let me know,cheers Vmax

vmax, rats ere again wud av bin bak earlier but i got flud ed in nth nsw power bin out for 3 1/2 days. Anyways seppos over there i found pretty dam groovey but then, i tended to play wit them a bit, just my sicksense of humer, ocker rules u dig?? Their pubs are very good as far as gettin in an havin a fat time without missin out, they dont understand queing up an by that i mean that as soon as you get to a bar there is a beer in yor hand an cold, the brassco,s are the same if you have to snakeshiss they have more shitters than kfc have burnt budgies an always serviced an clean C/- the cleaners 24/7 everything is big its so easy to see a band they just no how to make sure u can, scooters im gessing cud be about $120/ day but i cant be sure ull have to check that one, if you book early you will be ok, it is a total hoot but my bigest buzz was riding in an riding out, ie 10,000K,s later. I have ridden from Cairns to Melb a couple of times an that was great as well as inland runs an that was great but after riding over there im afraid we seriously need to address our nat hiways which are appalling by comparission, i am now in the frame of mind in my old age to save my hard earned and go for a blast in the states every now an then, sorry bruthers but patrioism dies wen ive replaced 10 outa 20 verts on an old bak.
