Give me your thoughts on this one please guys.

I am measuring a huge difference in points gap between the the wide and the narrow lobes. About .016" different.

If I set the gap at .018" on the wide lobe there's barely a gap at all on the narrow one.

New advance unit fitted when i bought the bike (was not running) as old one totally nuked, broken springs flogged pivots etc.

Is it possible the new cam is just poorly machined? or something bent?

79 ironhead sportster.

I have a 77 ironhead sportster and had problems starting, after checking the points gap i also found a big difference in the gap on the cam lobes, but it is easily fixed by loosening the bolt in the center of the cam and moving it sideways with a screw driver to get them even, keep winding it over and re-checking untill you get it even (5 thou difference max), i adjusted mine to within 1 thou, it now runs great and never kicks back on me when starting (Kick start only)
