Looking at getting Hooker Troublemakers for my 06 FXSTI, SE stage 1, hi flow, S+S slash cut slip-ons, any EFI concerns or can I just bolt the noisy suckers on? Any advice appreciated, cheers Hootin.

A mild curiosity becomes temptation, Hootin.

Grab them if you can get them for a good price. I think the Stage 1 remap you've already got, even if not optimal for the troublemakers, would buy you time to assess either a corrective flash from the stealer or some sort of extra fuel management system/unit - which are cheap and easy enough.

As long as the bike doesn't really start over-farting when you get off the gas, I say its a green light.

    Hi Hootin
We recently installed some Hookers for some customers.

What we found was that the manufacturing process leaves a section of pipe (at the slip joint and HeatShield interface) unwelded. Once the pipe heats up and expands, there is a significant amount of decel pop, translating into a loud bang.

The slip joint itself did not allow for a good seal either as it had a couple of mm clearance to get the header pipe into the muffler box.

With regard to how they flow compared to Stock and S&S- chalk and Cheese. I had the opportunity to do exactly this 2 weeks ago with the S&S pipes. The Hookers allowed much better performance.

    Hope that helps

    Cheers

    Hi Rooster

I cant comment on other series. The troublemakers (big radius equivalent) were the culprits. you can do a quick test but putting some water on the inside of the heatshield where the slip joint is. gently roll the pipe to see if the water makes its way into the muffler box.

Not much of a solution im afraid without doing some major surgery. Some have tried hi temp silicon but is somewhat hit and miss.

To fix them properly, they require the heat shield cut off, the slipjoint welded to the muffler box and the headerpipe, then the head shield refitted and welded in place. If your pipes are black, then they can be recoated after linishing, if they are Chrome, then they will need rechroming.

Fingers crossed you don't have the same problem.

    Cheers

    Cheers Mick,

Thanks for your advice. I will dig them out of the box and test them the way you have suggested.

I won't be fixing them, given what is required to do it. I think they will be making a trip back to Hooker for a warranty claim if they have the same problem.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Cheers ...... Rooster

Fitted the Troublemakers this morning without a hassle, went for a blast and noticed a big performance increase across the range, surprisingly there was no decel pop at all. There was one big difference though....my dog now leaps 6 feet in the air when I start up rather than 3. Cheers to everyone for the advice...Hootin.
