I am taking my air filter off to give it a clean, and in the past have just given it a fuel wash, but was talking to a mate and he said that you are ment to soak them in oil afterwards. Is this true? Its a K&N filter out of a Hypercharger.
If it's a K&N yes that is correct. You should go and purchase a proper K&N service kit, it contains the cleaning fluid and the correct oil to use. The kit is well worth the $ and will give you many services. 1 thing to remeber is K&N filters should only be serviced at recommened intervals, this is usually about 100,000kms, they many need some reoiling if they get water on them and start to dry out. I would never, never wash a K&N in petrol as this is not good for them.
Just my 00.02 cents worth.

Thanks for the info.
Got the filter oil and gave it a good clean. The oil should last me ages as i was told you only spray on a little bit. Know i know what to do for future reference...thanks.
Ratsmo, i went to the local Harley shop to get the oil for the filter and they said to blow the air filter with an aircompresser first across the fins gently to get rid of all the dirt first...and a heap of shit came out.
