Ok I went around to Scotty's today to have the guru provide his invaluable advice when changing cams.  Everything was going along nicely until the Chain Tensioner came off and it was worn to the shithouse. After some thought Scott found out that it had been put together incorrecly on assembly.  Consequently the shoe was continuously rubbing on the cam chain due to faulty assembly.  Now, at 2.30pm on a Saturday afternoon there was no chance to pick one up. So I will be getting on on Monday and replacing it.  It's funny coz I asked about getting a tensioner when I was getting the parts and was told nope you won't need to replace it.  Well Murphy raised his ugly head and proved us wrong.

If I hadn't done the cams today I wonder what would have happend in time when it eventually failed, which it would have.

So lesson learnt in this sutuation.  That part was probably put together on a Friday at 4.00pm.  or a Monday Morning after a big weekend.

PS for your info Scott done all the work, I done a fantastic job cleaning the crap off the threads on all the screws.

The way it looks like it was assembled was shoe, plunger, spring and housing. The way it should have been is Shoe, spring plunger, housing. Consequently the oil pressure was not alleviated by the spring because it was adding pressure to the tension shoe. Simple arse about assembly that caused the wear on the shoe. I will post a Pic of the old and new shoe when I swap them over. You will see the difference.

I rang up PS in Adelaide today to see if they had one in stock. Nope and the bloke on the other end had never sold one in his life. But Harley have one, it will hopefully be here tomorrow. I had to explain exactly what it was. And they are only sold as a unit. $65.00.

Ok changed over the tensioners this afternoon.  Here are some picks of new vs worn. As you can see in the last photo I have laid out the parts the way it was assembled. The correct way is as per the picture earlier in this post. When I was picking up the part this afternoon I mentioned to them about this and they said drop into service and talk to them about reimbursment for the costs.  So I did and as per usual the head honcho was away on lunch so I will drop in tomorrow afternoon with the worn part and see if I can get my money back at least.
