was thinking, wot with interest rates as low as a snakes belly, & SWMBO asking if I can fit a 2 up seat on the nightster ( not bloody likely ) so we could spend week days riding 2gether, is it the right time to trade the sporty for something that could handle 2 up better.

have no real idea of wot to get, have not even bothered to go to a dealer yet, but if the rates stay as low for a year or 2 then it might be worthwhile, I hate going into or being in debt to anyone, let alone a financier of any kind.

if I was to trade up, wot would be better, softy or Dyna for the occasional 2 up jaunt, would spend most of my time on my own, wonder wot a fat bob / fat boy would look like in the shed......

come on, don't spare the wrath, hit me .... flame suit on .....

toxic, i pickup my new fatboy next week, the more i rode my 08 fatty the more i liked it, so i'm hoping that the 09 is the same or better.
was told by a stealer i was dealing with ( but not who i am getting the new one from ) that Harley sell their bikes in quarters for the year, this is the last quarter now and Harley USA aren't sending anymore bikes for this quarter, so if the dealer hadn't had them presold and on hold or on the showroom floor or they weren't in the warehouse than tough titties.
so hence if you have a late model secondhand bike for sale you are in a great position to get maximum price.
so basicly you will have to shop around from dealer to dealer to find the bike you want or source one secondhand,
i found the one i was looking for at 2 dealers, one couldn't put together a good enough deal and the other could but in the 4 days it took me to decide to go ahead that dealer sold the bike , lucky for me, i think i got the last one from the warehouse availablefor the deal i wanted.

Not too concerned as to weather it's a new or traded model, more that, is it the right time in the financial world to go into debt, seeing interest rates are down, any loan would then have a lower rate than say, 18 months ago & would stay that way.

Might call em for a talk, feel em out so to speak.

If its practical, trade up. Steady $AU, interest rates relatively low. So if its practical in terms of ensuring better two-up riding, then there's a benefit worth doing.

Any other reason, probably not. I can't see much more fun being had for upgrading from a Sportster anyway, and the bike just get way more expensive for two wheels and engine, seat and some bars.

When I got a loan from Australian Central credit Union, I got 8.4% interest, thats on a $20,000+ loan, but you have to ask for it otherwise it is the standard 14% rate. they dont tell you either.

Toxic, would a Road King Classic be too big a change for you? I had the same problem, the other half wasn't happy about riding on the back of a Softail with a standard seat and no backrest. She did get a ride on the back of a Delux with backrest but still a bit harsh. When we hired a Road King Classic with back rest for a weekend she was impressed. Good seat, comfy and felt right. That's why I traded up to the RKC. They are a good looking bike in my opinion. Take the screen off if you want, easy as 1,2,3 but once you ride with one there's no going back. I now have the problem of her indoors wanting to go riding all the time, but that's not a bad thing I guess. It was that or get left home.

There is a few good deals out there for 08 models new or secondhand, also in the secondhand market some good deals on  06, or 07 models. You may notice that baggers don't hold their value as well as the Softail models, something to consider.
