Not So fast 883>1200 rebuild

Well boys an girls i have just finished a rebuild on the old 94 883 sporty to a 1200. I thort i was going to get on a fire breathn animal that was going to mono all the way to the corner well i gotta say after firing it up and going for a fang im  thinking this old scooter wudnt pull yer sick grandmuther off the shithouse seat,

Was i ever going down the right path given i put in 10:1 flat tops HD pistons, the bore out to 1200, a pair of S/E 1200 heds, Andrews n4,s and adjustable rods, a newer CV carby with S/E filta, Nu S/E coil and ign mod and leads an plugs, and then some reasonable slipons so ihad a nice amount of bak pressure for the valves.  The build was done by me, there are no strange noises or oil leaks all were measured miked and torqued, had 1 hiccup with electrics minor, charge system checked, batt new etc

Now im not the most patient sort of bloke speshly wen it comes to a rebuild, ya just wanna get on it and goooo, but i had xpectations that it was gunna give me fat boy a bit of stik given the big difference in power to weight ratio (01' 95" 10:1 flat tops HD, 203 SE cams, SE ign, 45 Mik and Hooker trouble makers) This old girl hammers awy kwyte nicely and is fairly very snappy and torquey thru all 5 slots,  which is what i thort the sporty would be like, a bit, i am still running the barrels in and will have to change jets a bit, but will it end up a weapon??? any comments much appreciated for its future ???? (its a great pub hopper, wheelin out the fatty is like crankin up the KW)              Anyway cheers from the Rat                        NO FLAMERS

I reckon run her in first, then get her dynoed.

Yep, run her in first. You still can play with the carby as this maybe your main problem.

Always hard to diagnose over the forum without seeing and hearing it in the flesh.

Must admit I thought my last rebuild would've scared me on the road but hasn't.

Still has turned out a quick bike and dynoed at 96.5 hp but thought may have been better.

All components have to be matched to get best results. Think that the exhaust is letting me down.

As long as you are having fun and the wind is in your face, all is good.

Thanks for yor thorts boys, i did mention i was not partic patient, and i was thinking xactly along yor lines, run these barrels in and along the way start tweaking this carby, jets etc. And then bak to the Grunt factory for a dyno. I think i need to test ride a 1200 fire breather, do they have anything like that to playwith at Morgans do you reckon??? or whare do you get it???Yea these sporty,s are so much fun after getting off the Massey,s clearance litewait and zing in a different format, Philthy man i drink at the Brunswick Hotel near Mullum if you ever venture down, or Wallaby,s up the line abit ware i work nearby, i take it yor a sporty nut?? Anyways Blak Fatty or wot the cat spewed up, the orange sporty at the Bruns. Regards that fuckin Rat, NO FLAMERS

I know the Bruns, have had quite a few Pale Ales there.

Yes I am a bit of a Sporty nut, best bike that Harley make.

Though I would nearly go to the dark side for a Fat (Bob) Slob.

See if you can throw your leg over a XR1200 at one of the Stealers, they go allright and would give you an idea of what you should get from it.

Many thanks to you walka you lil pisscutter, you have confirmed my info, an in my defence i didnt set up this carb, will try bigger jets 2day, had a look at yor bobber project, lookn good wit the pipes keep powern, Q with this thing of mine how important is bak pressure for a new topend rebuild?? on both my scooters i have always ran short loud pipes however on this rebuild i was advised to baffle them for valve protection, but these engines seem to be pretty tuff.
