Rebels protest ride on Saturday 2nd May

I find it interesting that the Rebels run to Victor Harbour on Saturday has not featured in the AdelaideNow website. It has been reported on the radio news and TV the last couple of days. Mike Rann spruiking his usual vitriol on the TV and Radio.

Apparantly the ride is going to start at Parliament House on Saturday morning (as a protest to the legislation) and then head down to Victor.

This morning the local member for that area, Pengilley was raving on about the run and using the same sort of language you get from Rann. Also mentioned the tax payers money on the extra 100 Police that will be used to monitor (harass) the riders.

What made me laugh was the next interview with the Mayor of Victor Harbour,  Mary-Lou Corcoran. Well she said that anyone including bike riders are welcome at VH. Just as long as they abide by the law etc she has no problem with them coming down to her town. Good on her I thought, at least someone is talking sensibly.

    Go Girl.

    Rebels under close police scrutiny

DOZENS of Rebels bikies did not even make it out of Adelaide Airport today without police interupting their moves.

Since Monday, Rebels members have been pouring into Adelaide for their national run, with police monitoring their movements around the clock.

With most bikes transported from interstate to avoid heavy scrutiny at road blocks, members from the eastern states flew in to Adelaide this morning, joining those riding in.

They were met by uniformed and plain-clothed Australian Federal Police officers, who followed their every move through the terminal.

As the Rebels queued at the rent-a-car counter, federal officers honed in on national president Alex Vella, checking his identification.

Vella stood aloof as officers checked his ID while fellow bikers milled around, waiting for their hire cars.

Metres away plain-clothed federal police officers went through the luggage of other gang members.

Fellow Rebels arrived in small groups throughout the morning on flights from Brisbane and Melbourne.

Vella declined to speak publicly yesterday, telling AdelaideNow he would speak tomorrow morning ahead of a planned protest at Parliament House against the Rann Government's anti-bikie laws.

Police today refused to comment on specific resourcing for the Rebels operation - or the cost to taxpayers - but said they had rostered on extra officers and had more "in reserve" should they be needed.
