Have just been for a fang on the old 94 sporty after doing a 883>1200 conversion, it made 40 K,s without me ute so i am very hapee. Now im not a complete fat bastard and am noticing that the forks in these old gals aint wot they used to be or from some reading i have done they never were!! Any particular way to go for beefing them up abit without getting a loan, like goin to the bike wreckers and poaching sumfin out of a rice grinder?? Any suggestions plse

new oil and a 3/4 shim under the spring will fix it

Yea thanks folks, i will prob go with the shim and thicker oil combo untill i get the progressive springs, the shim i take it, is a bit of thick wall pvc tube and place it on top of the springs and then screw the caps on yea??? I put 2" overs on the Fatty and and put the same style spacer/shim (2") in to compensate for the xtension.

Rather than thicker oil, which will just make your forks really slow to react to bumps, try adding more 10w or 15w oil to each fork leg if you are trying to prevent bottoming out. That with more preload should help you out.

    Another thought....

A reasonably cheap solution for fork springs that are too weak (or worn out) is to add air valves to your fork caps. Drill and tap a threaded hole in the fork caps and screw in a schrader valve fitting. 5 or 6 lbs of air pressure (or less) is all that's needed.
