Grease from Steering Head

Whenever I take the bike on a decent run and sit on 100+ I eventually get what looks like a snail trail coming up over the tank.

It confused the hell out of me the first time it happened until I traced it back to a blob of grease on the lower triple clamp coming from the steering head.

Is this a common thing and is there an easy way to stop it?

I keep wiping it off and it keep coming back.

    cheers

Yeh I had the same problem on my softail. It was due to the steering head not being at the correct tension which allows the grease to vibrate out of the bottom. Again it only happened on long 100kph+ runs. Do you get a clunk feeling when crossong railway lines or changes in road surface?

The bike had the CLUNK fixed at first service.

    Hot weather?

There are some greases out there that break down when they get warm to hot, especially if the grease is old.

Mobil has a blue coloured grease that does this. It turns to oil and leaks everywhere.

Sounds like the bearings need repacking
