MOBIL TOLLGATE RULES

That rule was around ever since I started riding bikes 23 years ago.
I would always take the safer option of getting off the bike before refueling, besides the fact you are earthing the bike when you get off I can only imagine what the feeling would be like if you where to spill petrol on the family jewels.

Same applies to Jerry cans. Must be taken off the vehicle and put on the ground before filling. Same reason. Static.

Copped the same loud speaker treatment a couple of weeks ago. Would not start the pump (diesel) until I took the cans (plastic) out of the back of the 'cruiser and put em on the ground.

Just couldn't work out why nothing was said to the woman on the pump next to me chatting away on her mobile phone while filling her car

Also, if you accidentally spill a bit of petrol on your engine or pipes which would be hot at the time (I'vde done it, no fire luckily), the last place you want to be sitting is on the bike, if you have to get off in a hurry with no stand where's the bike going to end up?

    Fatboy,
Having said that, I've done it plenty of times too, ie fill up without getting off, anyone with a 3.3 gal tank knows the value of getting every last drop in the tank. After my petrol incident I make a habit these days of getting off, I never even thought about the static thing though, makes a lot of sense.

The moral of the story is............If you're going to sit on your bike to refuel and happen to set yourself alight, ensure that all of your pockets are loaded with marshmallows so the poor bastards who have to clean up the mess have got something to munch on.

I'm with you Mick, I only ride in an open face helemt and I won't take it off to go in and pay.

I had one smart arse tell me to take it off and when I asked why he replied that " yes" we can see your face but don't know what colour your hair is. I told him that as my beard is full of grey hair then it is a safe bet that I didn't dye it that colour. He laughed, I paid and went on my way.
