Hi guys. Was about to order some parts from Zanotti's to keep myself busy over the winter months, which included a larger Tank, SE 883/1200 conversion, etc etc, when I had a sudden (terrible) thought. Is there any duty (tax) payable on these items when they area bought in from the US of A?

I thought it would be cheaper to do up the bike than update, as the Sportster is only 9 months old & I would probably end losing too much in the changeover. Over to you.....O' great bearers of wisdom & associated bullshit........ Stay upright.

Anything over $1000au (and that includes the shipping cost) sent via post is liable for import duty

    and then GST on top.

You can get charged for customs duty.

I had A vintage carby sent of about four years ago, costed over $AU1200, I got a nasty letter from customs demanding duty be paid or they send it back to sender

I can't remember how much it was,

I think it kicks in with bike parts over $1000

I have been told there is a loop hole that if you spend over $1000 you can get away with paying duty if you have paper work saying that the parts were completly made from american materials and built in the U.S . worth looking into. got the info from my father in-law who bought some parts for his mustang recently.

Thanks guys...I'm slightly depressed, but there is a glimmer of light I see. Looks like my main problem will be the 883/1200 conversion as its $935 American without freight added. Your replies have been appreciated.

Well I got some parts from Zanotti's and they were marked as a gift from his end. So no tax or duty payable.

Zanotti's usually will not put the full retail price on the shipping slip.  The Tank box will be a fair size so why not do it via a couple of shipments.  The previous post about $1000 max is correct.
