hi guys, I have an 08 street bob, over the last couple of nights I've been doing a couple of jobs on her, changed top triple tree too aan 07 coz mine had the intergrated risers, put on some new bars and some race tech fork springs. I was gonna internal wire my bars:

    so.... pulled out the maxi-fuse

fished out the plugs from frame backbone for the left and right switch blocks and indicators and correctly pulled the wires from the connectors,

made up my own wiring diagram before doing so and fitted them back correctly when finished

put maxi fuse back in and indicators flashed and alarm didn't go off  .... cool... i thought

noticed high beam warning light was on and sure enough hi beam switch was on ... cool i thought... that works

started bike, fired straight away and idled no probs.... great ... i thought

then bike died, i tried to restart but no response from starter and then alarm started going off.

nothing i could do to stop alarm, the fob wouldn't do anything so tried spare fob..... no good....

pulled maxi-fuse knowing this wouldn't help as alarm was already going off but did it anyway out of desparation.

alarm slowly died down to nothing, i'm guessing because backup battery has drained.

Ok I don't know what to do now, thought alarm might have gone off because main battery was low but the bike sarted fine first time, starter had plenty of power.

I will try disarming with the PIN tomorrow, it's 7pm here now and don't want to piss off the neighbors if the damn thing goes off again.

Can I do some sort of reset?  or disable the siren at least while i fault find? really stuck here....

I'm sure the most likely reason is a short in the wiring somewhere, so will be checking that, I just wish I could disable the siren so that doesn't keep going off while i'm testing things.... maybe it wont if the backup battery stays dead ?....

I haven't search for info yet but will be doing so now.

    Any help appreciated....

Another slant on things is both FOB's could have flat battery.

Need to have ign on B4 pulling fuse or battery out..

Good luck and lettuce know the outcome

I won't get a chance to look at the bike until sunday, fob was working fine up til now so i know the batteries in them can go dead but dont think this is the case this time.

I'll run my multi meter between all the pins and earth to see if i can find a wire shorting out as well as eyeballing all the wires.... wish i tackled this job while we still were in daylights savings time, man its so fucking dark early now................

I must have switched the the key to ignition b4 pulling the fuse or the alarm would have sounded then, but on the chance that I didn't, how do i fix that now, after the case? fob or manually keying in the pin should still disarm the security system shouldn't it?

    hi guys,
thought I was on a winner, found a short with multimeter, fixed that but still no go, when key is switched to ignition the key light (security icon) just stays on tried HogBags help as above but can't get to step 4, indicator doesn't flash,

tried the procedure from the manual which is slightly different and still no go can't get the dashes showing in the odometer to put in my code which I do know.

I have unplugged the siren coz didn't want this going off again while trying to fix. Could this be the problem now? the siren has to plugged in?

yeah robo have been hoping scotty might have an idea but i know elec issues are pretty damn hard to sus out without being there...

i just checked all the handlebar switch wiring again, checking each pin for continuity against the bars and other good earth points on the bike and they are all fine, checked all fuses, they are fine, when bike is set to ignition headlight, low and high beam, horn all work, neutral light works, but not the indicators or starter, the clock flashes and key icon stays on.

Weird that the first time i tried the other day, the bike did start and run but then about 30 secs later it stopped and alarm came on....

hey scotty, hope u r feeling better

the alarm won't go off if you pull the maxi fuse with ignition on, Ive done it before no probs after reading about it on the US forums.

I think i already tried putting the fuse back in with the hand control connectors unplugged and fault was still the same, but not sure, done so many things now trying to fix.
Will try that again tomorrow when i have a fresh mind.....
    cheers

sounds like i pulled the maxi fuse wrong, i pulled it when key was in ignition not when switched back to off.... bugger.... it does seem like it is confused...

yes a wire did earth out, i have fixed the wire but it looks like it has maybe gone on to cause other probs.

I will check all the fuses again and all the wiring, i will check i put the wires back in all the plugs properly etc. the turn signal wire/plug could be the key as they are linked to the security system?

    siren is unplugged...

ok, thanks scotty i will check all that tomorrow, i've had enough for today, gonna go pour a nice red.. at least its shitty weather so i wouldn't be riding anyway

    take it easy, cya

ok, first, thank you guys for your help, second, I feel so like such a dick, I did check all the fuses but somehow missed one or something coz on checking again, the "Lamps" fuse was blown...

2 or 3 days of stuffing around for a blown fuse @$%#$%@%@!

glad its been shitty weather and there wasn't a ride on that i missed because of this.

    Anyway, again thanks.
