Had my bike serviced last week (8k) SW HD put dino oil in, Paul reckons it's good stuff. Previously I changed to Amsoil after 1600k service. My observation is that with Amsoil the bike was certainly less noisy and ran cooler. I did a quick run today with ambient about 30c and temp in oil tank was up to 225f and there is a lot more upper cylinder noise, with Amsoil it would be about 200f and quite.

My conclusion is that I will change back to Amsoil ASAP

I use Penrite Enduro/Penrite Gas (summer) and Rimula X/Rimula MV in winter for my Springer.

Avoid Mobil 1 15w 50 the SJ car oils create detonation, cluth slippage and pinging.

SH car oils also cause starter clutch slippage (Pennzoil synthetic blend).

I've tried alot of different oils and found out the hard way.

I don't like paying $80 an oil change at the dealer so I change my own.

The best ones that are available at your auto shop are the Penrite range of oils or diesel oil like Shell Rimula range CG-4 or CI-4 plus.

If you want synthetic use Penrite SIN 25 it's got a high shear rate of 7.1 (Amsoil SYn. is 6.0).  SIN 25 is fine to run all year round as it's pour point is -33. However BEWARE use a synthetic which is JASO MA and designed for motorbikes as bearing skate does occur in some peoples engines.

The tech. people at Harley reckon you should stick to mineral for the V-twin minus the V-Rod engine. That's what I do.

The best oil has to be Mobil 1 V-twin. S&S endorse this and use it in their motors.
This oil was engineered by a Harley rider for Harleys check out the oil stats on Mobil 1's website. It is expensive though around $19 a quart.

If you want a cheaper one go for Penrite SIN 25 this oil is designed for hammering. Its around $72 per 5ls. SIN 25 is Harley compatible.

OK my bike is due for 16 000Km service and I want to use fuly synthetic oil such as "Redline".

If I buy all 3 types of oil (1 for oil tank, 1 for gearbox and 1 for primary) and give it to Frasers would they pour new olis in or would they refuse and insist on using HD oils?

Can I force them to use Redline oils?

Bike is still under new bike warranty.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

After reading Heavy duty's oil comparison awhile ago I switched to Mobil V Twin. Can be a little bit hard to get up my way. No complaints. Also I change my oil filter every time the oil is changed.
As a word of advise I'd suggest using a genuine HD oil filter. Whenever I've used a non genuine I've noticed that the filter is empty when it's taken off. Genuine ones have oil in them.
    Anybody else noticed this?

Nope. I use a CAT filter on mine and is full of oil when I unscrew it and have to clean the bike. Think next time I will take the plugs out and crank it over a bit to try and get some out. Also will crank it over when refilled while the plugs are out to get the oil around the motor before firing it up.
