Ok thought I might try and start a bit of banter.

What brand of tyres are people out here useing on their Harleys

Interesting to compare to what they like in the U.S.

Ok looks like noone is going to say much about tyres,so I guess I will start the ball rolling myself

For the last few years I have been useing Avon Venoms exclusively and have found them to be excellent in the wet and dry.

Currently I have the Standard Dunglops.... and they are just that crap........... they came on the new bike.Just waiting for them to wear out and then I will get my 18" wheels and put some Avons on .

I notice that on the U.S. site Metzler seems to be all the rage,be interested to hear other experiences here.

    Hi All,

I concur with most on here.....The stock front is crap!. I have recently changed to the venom. Much better and looks fuller in the guard also.
I quite like the back tyre. I think I will be replacing it with the same as original.

    Cheers

I got 1000ks out of the stock rear and have run an 880 Metz for the next 7000 so far. the stock Dunny filled the guard better and the dealer's not keen to put a 170 on in the Metz but it's been good so far.. I've got 17000 out of the stock front and it will be replaced with the 880 as well... like others, I felt like the front slipped about a bit in the wet....

Only 1000k's on the stock rear, that doesn't sound like much I've done more than that on the stock tyre and it still looks fine. What type of roads do you ride on?

Kingchops........   every road between port fairy on the south coast and batemans bay on the east coast.......  I thought I did alright....  a mate with a lowrider changed his rear at about 9000....   and we did nearly all those k's together...

I think there might have been a misprint earlier as your earlier post says 1000k's and I think it should have read 10,000km's if you got better than your mate got 9,000km's...............don't ya just love typos

Only 2500 Kms ? Holy crap

I've had my stock front on for 17,000 km (it's in pretty bad shape now though, I'm about to replace).

Rear wore out at about 10,000

My Dunlops are still like new,but I have been offered some ME880's at a really good price,so I think I will grab them and give them a go,usually an Avon user, but for the price I can get the Metzlers at I can't pass them up

ME880's once the stock Dunlops were worn out. IMHO they are a much better tyre. Nice and stable in the first lot of rain we've had in a while in Darwin today.

    Hi Guys and Girls.

I am up for a new front tyre on my Super Glide I have been running the ME88 Metzelers which i reckon are a great tyre.

My Question is has anyone used the Continentals brand and if so what do you think of them.

    Any feedback would be great.

    cheers sparkie

I did read on the U.S. forum, and I had a look on the continental site as well, that Continental don't list a tyre for the larger Harleys as they are not rated to carry the load.

Thats very interesting because the local bike tyre shop said he could
fit one for me for $149.00.
I'll have to look into it some more.
    Thanks for the info.

    czarek/johno

Re the metz 880 I paid $210.00 for the rear 140/90-16
and $159.00 for the front 100/90-19.
    Hope that helps

    cheers sparkie

Off topic a bit but if I replace the standard banglop rear tyre from 06 FXDLI with a metz can I upgrade from a 160 to say a 170 or 180 without any hassels to fill the guard out a bit. I understand the metz's are a bit skinnier than standard (correct me if i'm wrong), dont want to loose the wide look. Would I need spacers etc or is it just fit her up and ride. I'm not sure waht you get in a wide tyre kit from the stealer.

Was going to post in workshop but seeing as we are on the subject
