hey gruvy not exactly related but ,when we bought our 09 ultra i wanted to get heaps of extras ,and my dealer salesperson actualy gave some good advice ! yeah yeah i know but it helps if ya know so all listen up!! lol ...when you buy your bike leave off all the extras at first purchase and youll save a shit load on stamp duty's and govt charges and shit like that ,then buy all your extras after that ! saved us a few hundred bucks which went back into more shit for the scoota :)

The seat arrives this Friday and i'm looking at doing a run to Harrington, leaving via Puty Rd, Singleton and Dungog, Gloucester and Taree and back down the Buckets Way through Stroud, Clarence Town, Maitland, Cessnock then Woolemi and Wisemans. I dont like highways. What do you recomend as you have just been up that way. I will be leaving early Sat morning and back Sunday arvo late. Gruvy

    Hi Skin,

well it all started out great but only got as far as Windsor when i ran up the ass of a table top ute, bit shook up. Bike seems to be OK, the headlight bezel is trashed no broken glass and small dents and scratches on front guard. Faarrk, Totally my fault, went through the lights at Windsor and started up the hill, didn’t see him break until it was too late. Looking back i think that i hit him just as I came to a stop. bent that back of his tray, only aluminum but felt like a decent shunt. Decided not to push my luck and came home. Bike rides the same so i hope there is no other damage, will get it assessed this week.

I often ride the Putty Rd, as far as the "burnt out" halfway house. (Damn I was dissapointed to see that). Other riders I know always go on about the Old Pacific Hwy. Sure it's a nice ride, but not as nice as the Putty Rd. We have, in my opinion one of the safest, most scenic routes in Australia!!! I say safest, because the pavement is brilliant, the turns are well posted, and I try to ride to my ability. I see guys on Ducatis and Hayabusas flying down the straights and taking corner like Valentino. I would rather take it nice and and slow, and enjoy the delights of this beautiful country. My Deluxe weighs about 320 kilos plus me at 90kg, so I try to ride as cautiously as I can, knowing some bloke in a sportstcar could take my life in an instant. That aside, I did see a herd of deer crossing about 120 metres down the road, which could have been ugly if I was going quicker, or they we crossing slower. Anyway, I still believe sometimes things happen which we have no control over. We choose to ride because we love it, and we all share the same values. Us older blokes probably could teach the younger blokes a thing or two, but hey, we were there once, remember!!!! Ride safely, and do not take anything for granted..

Well got the gremlin off my back, and took off to Harrington on the weekend to spend a bit of time with my ride before she goes intom the shop to get fixed. $1100 to do the guard, headlight bezel and other minor stuff, also had a call from the guy I collected, he has to replace the rear tray of his ute because it is bent and wont press out. Still, i was bloody lucky and will have to pay more attention. Question, do I scan ahead of the car in front or just keep an eye on him???

Anyway the ride was great, I went up through the Putty to Singleton and on to Dungog, Gloucester and home via the buckets way to Raymond Terrace then down the freeway home. 839 ks, 46lts of fuel (roughly 5.4lts per 100 ks as a matter of fact I got home on one tank)  just on 51/2 hours on the way up with two stops and 43/4 on the way back with one stop , anyway it was great and the seat worked out well. My ass still gets a bit numb but its at least 100% better than the standard.

    Hi All.

Absolute newbie with Harleys but just bought a 09 Road King Classic and was wondering if any of you have managed to get a Premuim Leather Tour Pak installed on a 09 RKC. I really like the wrap around backrest for the wife. This tour pak is listed up to 08 only. Surely with a little adaptation of the bracket, it could fit on the 09 RKC? Any thoughts?

Hey Skin. The parts guy at the stealer also confirmed yesterday that all I need to do is mate the 08 Premuim Leather TP to a 09 rack with a little drilling. Local HD pricing on this TP is ridiculous...checking out Zanotti's, etc.

I was hoping to have picked up the bike on Friday afternoon, but all the paperwork was not complete. The pickup has now been confirmed for Tuesday morning. As you can imagine, I just can't wait till Tuesday!! Its a Pewter Pearl and I just love the classic look but with all the latest gadgetry like ABS, cruise control and air suspension. I currently ride a VStar and I am sure the RKC will be like riding something from a different planet.

I was a litle concerned about all that chatter about the 5th gear, but I got a good deal so decided not to wait for the 2010. Will post pics later this week. Matt.

Thanks everyone for the comments, I can understand how pleased you all are with the Road Kings.
Had to wait for an 2010 RKC to arrive, picked it up about a 1 1/2 weeks ago and couldnt be happier.
Joined the Brisbane HOG and went for their monthly ride on Sunday down south. About 550km's all up on the highway and mountains. Handles great, loves the corners, and plenty of power.
I followed advise and went for the Sundowner seat, super comfy.
Might have to look at the heritgage bars, but that would be all.

Now I've got enough k's for the first serrvice, I can get the monster ovals, SERT,  etc fitted.

Cant wait to get it back, and see the difference.

hey streety is that rite or just a wifes tail about not needing to change tune if only changing slip-ons ???? i noticed that d&d has slipons and zipper cleaner with no tuner adj required ! a bit dubious about that but could be diffrent for us models and oz models !?

    Aussie,

Streetbobs correct. I should have been a bit clearer.

I'm no expert so anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but I spent a hell of a lot of time researching all this before forking out the buig bucks on the MO's.

From what I can conclude, you can get away with just a set of slip ons. The views on this ar eindifferent, some say go ahead, others say it may run lean.

Many suggest going that extra and do the air cleaner and SERT, best results for minimal additional outlay.

The real question which I could get any real decisive responce on was as to whether to Dyno.

In the end, I went for the MO's, air, SERT, and Dyno just to be sure, and I'm not one to go playing around with it.

Afgter doing 2,000k's on a stock RK, it'll be interesting to feel any change.

Let you know after the 20th.
