TIme to ditch the 07 Blackbird, and settle down. Been looking at Softail, Fatboy, Night Train, but I think the Road King Classic has got me hooked. I've heard the improvements on the 09 model were a giant leap forward, and only need to fit a set of slip ons (V&H monster ovals), and high flow air intake, and you have a sweat ride with plenty of grunt.

Its hard ot get unbiased info from the dealers, so were better to get some advice and feedback.

You only have to look at the sales figures for the new 09 baggers to see that Aussie buyers are snapping them up at a rate not seen in Australia before.

Those that have bought them are convinced.

You wont go wrong with a 09 Road King.

    Enjoy.

I went and bought the much improved 08 RKC and bugga me dead they go and make more changes in 09. Still love my RKC, have started to hint for the 2010 model. But I don't think that's going to work. Maybe an Ultra next.

    Hey Skin,

Took a Dyna with a 103 kit put through it for a blast last Saturday, sensational plenty of torgue right through. Loved it. got back on my bike and thought there was something wrong. Still researching the seat, would love to try before i buy. I only decided to change it after I got back from melborne, a mate of mine suggested a Danny Grey and frasers recon all i need is a tall boy seat. There is so much around hopefuly someone will say I have this on my bike come and try. As for the tyres I have traveled almost 9000ks and they seem to be great and wearing well, I have been told that i should get 16000 out of them possibly more. The bike is a dream to ride and i get on it every chance I can, no wonder they are selling shit loads of them.

    Hey Skin,

have you ever considered trying an Airhawk. I got one for my last bike and was amazed at the difference it made. I managed Ceduna to Perth in a day and didn't suffer numb bum syndrome at all. I haven't tried it on the new steed as yet as I haven't gone for a big run, the ride home from Perth to Kal(600kms) was fine with the standard seat on the Ultra but I'll take the airhawk for when I go to Phillip Island in October, just in case.

The airhawk fits pretty easy, and costs about $140 from memory, lokk him up he's on the web. www.airhawkguy.com.au

    Cheers

    Hi RT,

    Great advice,

I have only come to the conclusion that I need to look at another seat after travelling nearly 9000ks in the last 5 months with a long blast down to Melbourne then back to Sydney a few weeks back. i think the longest hall was about 6 or 700 ks with breaks obviously. Yes I would get a sore ass after awhile and when it was bad with no break in site would stretch out onto the pillion seat for relief, long legs. After discussing this with the "stealers" they suggested the tall boy as it would give me an extra 2" . would be great to try before you buy but that wont happen. I have some long rides coming up, Taree, Jindabyne and then Tassie in November so I hope to have it all sorted by then. Don’t get me wrong the standard seat is a good seat especially for the short blasts 2-300 ks on windy roads I assume because you are constantly moving around but on the long straight roads of a freeway it gets painful after awhile.

    PK,

nope got up at 5.00am Ceduna time ( thats 3.30am Perth)  and intended to stay at Norseman but wasn't too tired and it was still only 1.00pm local so decided to go till I was tired.

I got tired about Merredin  but only 250 kms to go so pushed on got home about 8pm. I was riding a 1200 BMW, and the ride from Ceduna to Norseman wasn't slow, only stopped for 10 minutes for fuel every 250 to 300kms.

I'm not bragging, that's just the way it was. A great bike and a good ride, don't know if the Ultra would do the same, but I'm hoping to do Kal to Ceduna in  a day when I go to the Island in October, I'll let you know how I get on.

    Cheers

Hi All, I’ve done nearly 10k since Feb. 09 and its still like new, absolutely loving it. I’ve got two trips up and back to Taree next month followed by Canberra (Ulysses weekend)then Tassie at the end of Oct for the national HOG weekend, on the way back looking at Great ocean road to Kingston SA and then home. just cant get enough. Interesting read on the comments and thanks.
Took a demo RKC for a good 1-2 hour run out of Brisbane last week, after taking the Blackbird for the same.
No comparison, the RKC was in a class of its own.
After 2 hrs in the saddle, I was still up for some more ride time.
So, put my order in, get the first of the 2010 models due in late September as no black 09's left.
Have gone for Sundowner Deep Bucket RKC Seat for those longer rides.
I might even get the Brawler for those short solo runs, and add a few bits and pieces (stealth grips, nostalgic floorboards, Live to Ride Air Cover, where do you start?)
Have also gone for the Monster Ovals but need some advice on what else needs doing as far as mapping etc.
I was advised by the dealer, the MO's cant be fitted till the first service, so hope to get this done before going to the HOG Rally late November with a few mates.
Were looking forward to the ride from Brissie.
