A Melbourne pub security guard lost a thumb in an attack by machete-wielding thugs on Easter Sunday while footage of a nightclub brawl that spilled out onto a CBD street has been released. The Age reports the most recent assault occurred outside a Docklands hotel on Enterprise Way at around 3.40am. The 37-year-old doorman's thumb was cut off in the attack but was later reattached by surgeons at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. The footage of the brawl shows revellers punching each other and hurling bottles at security guards at 9.30am on February 22 — a Sunday morning. The images were captured by security cameras in a laneway off King Street, showing as many as 20 young men engaged in a violent brawl that goes on for several minutes. Another clip shows a separate incident in which a young man is king-hit and flung out into Flinders Lane by a group of men. Both clips were obtained by the Herald Sun and occurred early this year in the notorious nightclub area of Melbourne's CBD. The Victorian government said it is concerned over the escalation of violence. "It poses a threat to all sorts of people, regardless whether it is in this location or that location," Consumer Affair Minister Tony Robinson said. "Any anti-social activity of that type is unacceptable." The government has also criticised a kickboxing promotion at the notorious QBH hotel which has been the centre of two brawl-related deaths in two years. Mr Robinson said the promoter's spin on the event — Mothers' Day Mayhem — sent mixed messages to the public.
