Been bugging me for years...why is it when you go past a truck, either there is no gust of wind or it almost rips your head off...I noticed it doesn’t matter what speed you are doing.

This might be crap Fangio but take notice if the truck is a newer or older one. I reckon the newer ones are alot more aero dynamic these days and they don't blow you off the road when they go past and the older ones do......Just my bit of crap for the day.......

Mate. Went past (in opposite direction) a large cement mixer truck on a country road. We were both probably doing 100k's. I dont know wether the "Tear Drop" shape had anything to do with it but it almost sucked me off the bike. If I had of know it was going to be that severe, I would have dropped my daks when I first saw it coming. LOL. It was the worst bit of turbulance I've ever experienced.

I reckon it also depends on which way the wind is blowing. If its in ya face and a truck goes past its worse than if the wind is behind you.

also depends on wether it is a cab over or a bonneted truck .....

Fatman this is a comon occorunce with road trains ..... high and low air presure

the wind of the front of the truck will push you away the air between the cab and the barrel of the mixer will pull you in the the air from the mixer barrle will once again push you away

with road trains it has been knowen that they cause caravans to implode .... yes implode the suction that is created between the trailers because of the length of the draw bar on the dolly ....... this will be the simular feeling you had going past the cement mixer.....

the reason the caravans implode is that the vanner forgets to shut the hatch or a window the RT comes past sucks the air out of the van and bang it folds up like a empty tinny ...

now why dont it happen with b doubles not enough gap between the trailers ..... thats why they have them close together to stop this from hapaning ....

i definately agree with cab overs.
was heading south through goondiwindi last year and past a fair few trucks, if they were cab overs i was holding on, and nearly everyone hit me, the bonneted ones didnt have anything, i reckon that shows its definately to do with airodynamics, imagine the wind hitting a flat face, it has to bulge out the sides.
oh yeah definately wind direction too :-)

I agree with ya Noit its got to do with which way the wind blows just come back from Longreach and fuck some of em just about pushed the bike backwards yet others passed and didn't even notice em.
Windscreen makes fuck all difference too, it still gets ya.
