Just been leaked on the channel 7 news, the Americain company which brought the number plate recon technology here, which identifies if the car is stolen or unreg in 2 seconds, has just unvieled to the government its latest toy

it is a car system aimed for concils  to detect parking infringement.....or so they say

it can travel down a street doing 60km and detect every car on both sides of the road, recording rego details, identifying stolen cars, and uploading the cars location to a computer data base

and if they come back in two hours and the car is still there, or what ever time limit, issue a parking infrignment.

It was suppose to be kept secert

the test car is purple with the sides covered in a white checker patten and five big white survalance cameras on top

the fact it records data on where parked cars are at any time of the day is scary... this is big brother

Talking about the rego plate recon system.....the blue gang was using it both sides of the freeway near Pakemham (Vic) last tuesday with a van set up near an overpass. They were parked some distance down the road.

On the return trip there were plenty of parked vehicles both sides of the freeway...no drivers around....got a few. First time I've seen it used outside of the city area. Just doesn't pay to go un-registered (or un-licensed) these days. Thats progress I suppose!!

    Two words, revenue raising.
I agree with Councillor Moran on this one.

See I can see people being hounded for exhausts or maybe some stupid 'speeding' tolerances and think its overkill and gross misjustice and just to keep the cash registers ticking...

On the flipside, if you wanna go riding or driving and not pay registration, or cruise around in a stolen vehicle, I can see you probably would enjoy getting pinched anyway. Doing these is ludicrous.

Better that the old bill concentrate on offences like these ones and shelve the petty stuff like an exhaust or exceeding limits by 3km/h
