Once I had realised he was OK I woulda slapped him so at least he got a little bit hurt...
my son (the one in discussions above) got clipped by another bike at 100k's racing up the bitumen, after my warnings about riding the dirt bike on the road. I watched as he cartwheeled then barrel rolled up the bitumen for what seemed like a hundred yards. When I got over to him I checked him out for broken bones, lost fingers etc, but same thing, except he got some real nasty gravel rash, with bits of blue metal injected in it. Made him pick the bike up, check it out, kick it in and ride it back to the trailer - about a kay away. Still reckon he got off easy.
Now you can see why I don't want him on anything too quick just yet!
My sons first bike was a Honda CBR250RR, nice little bike I thought, Joey Dunlop TT Anniversary Model, can't be too quick for a young fella??? Stuff me I took it for a couple of blasts around the hills to keep the cobwebs out while he was away in Iraq, I knew they were nippy things but man did this thing hoot, bags of fun but I think I would've been happier in hindsight if he'd started on something more sedate, but hey I'm a parent, what the fuck do I know. My son gets back and decides to sell the little rocket, up rolls a punter with his dad, " Can I take it for a test ride? ", my son looks at me," I wouldn't " I say but again what do I know, " um ok but be careful" he says, so off he goes, it's night time misty dew on the road and his dad say's to me " he's only been riding his mates 125 dirtbike around his back yard," fuck", you guessed it 500mts down the road and into the gutter, front fairiing, side fairing, peg, shifter, hole in the crankcase, oil pissing everywhere, broken foot etc etc " hey buddy you now own your first bike", came around the next day with a trailer and the cash. There endeth the lesson
