A political party formed to oppose South Australia’s anti-bikie gang laws wants to expand to WA, declaring the State Government’s plan to outlaw bikie gangs an erosion of civil rights. The FREE Australia Party, recently labelled the “bikie gang party” by SA Premier Mike Rann, said it hoped to have a presence in WA soon, just days after nominating seven candidates for next year’s SA election. Groups in WA, NSW and Queensland are reportedly on membership drives to establish party branches. It comes after Attorney-General Christian Porter revealed last month he was investigating laws such as the controversial SA model, which is similar to anti-terrorism laws and allows gangs to be outlawed. FREE Australia founder and SA election candidate Paul Kuhn said the party was already looking at Federal registration and wanted WA to be a part of its expansion, both at Federal and State levels. “WA, NSW and Queensland are very keen to adopt another party like us,” he said. “We are getting feedback along those lines. Now WA is talking about bringing in the same laws, I suspect we will get a lot more inquiries and that will be enough to drive the impetus to set this up.” Mr Kuhn said SA’s tough anti-bikie laws had been the catalyst for the party’s registration in that State but said it now had other policies, which included a charter of human rights. Mr Kuhn said a WA expansion would be discussed at a party meeting in SA tonight. Mr Porter told Parliament this week the SA model was still being looked at and had merit as the most advanced piece of law enforcement legislation in Australian history.
