A South Australian parliamentary inquiry will be set up to curb excessive state government political advertising.
State parliament's upper house on Wednesday night voted to form a select committee to investigate government-funded political advertising.
Greens MLC Mark Parnell proposed the inquiry, to develop guidelines to reduce blatant political advertising.
"Clearly, the Rann government has lost its moral compass when it comes to blatantly political advertising paid for out of the public purse," Mr Parnell said in a statement on Thursday.
"As we enter a pre-election year, the Greens fear the government will keep on wasting taxpayers money on their political spin unless the parliament pulls them into line."
The inquiry's terms of reference include establishing guidelines dealing with the appropriate use of government advertising; the cost of government advertising and; the process for dealing with public complaints about government advertising from the general public.
