Depends on how much Grunt you want. You could chamge the exhaust and air filter and add a fuel management device,(another topic altogether) this will make the bike a hell of a lot more rideable.Next step would be to add cams,to gain even more power, then you could have head work done along with the cams.Next step would be as you say, increase the capacity, but you also greatly increase the monetary outlay. And you will loose some fuel economy, which on a touring bike is sometimes important.Or you could just go the whole hog and fit a blower.150 odd H.P. would be nice, but not so sure I would want to tow a trailer with it..
That's the joys of owning a bagger.
But Shhhhhhh don't let the rest of them know how good it is !!!!!!
I have a 96 roadking with a stage 2 chip goes like hell, its a great ride and would love to ride with others. let us know, cheers Dirtydog.
yeh i got one of them too ...
You will be happy witht the Chubby wild 1s,I like to sit back and enjoy the ride,so I went witht the 508s and they are perfect for what I want, once you get used to the different position they put your hands in,took about an hour to get used to,now I don't think about it,just enjoy it.Their quality is great and they look good, always draw a lot of comments,as they are different to what is available here. The 518s will give you a more upright riding position, and they will alleviate that leaning forward position you get with the standard bars, that becomes a real pain in your lower back after a while.
DD,
I also have a 96 King can you provide me a few details on the chip?
Steve.
hey md
ifound my bike the same and fitted the hd touring pullback bars
i changed all the cables etc like they say in the acc book
really like the changes and find the setup a lot more comfy
be aware that unless ya do the job youself and source the parts from the us it will cost ya heaps for the job
purchased all my bits + pieces including bars from mandmcycles in ohio good people to deal with + saved around $400
Hey rkc
It won't be the bars that cause any wobble at high speed. The 518's and 508's are not much wider than the standard bars, where they are different is in the fact that they pull back much further, putting your body in a much more natural position and allowing your arms to hang more naturally.Personally if I was going to do any long miles then I wouldn't want tall apes,as they do make your arms ache and can lead to the old problem of numb hands as the blood flows down hill away from your raised hands.
The only down side I have with the Chubby's I have on my bike is that everyone that has seen them or sat on my bike wants them !!!!!!! They are that comfortable.
PS
if it ever stops raining and I ever get a day off work,I would ride down your way and you could have a look for yourself
have a 1999 bagger (rkc) ... love it with some mods done, & more to come
