A man has been rushed to hospital suffering gunshot wounds to his chest and thigh after a drive-by shooting at a home in Sydney's northwest.

The 39-year-old man was shot twice at a home on Sanctuary Drive, Beaumont Hills about 9.20pm (AEDT) on Wednesday, a NSW police spokesman said.

"Police were called after reports of a drive-by shooting," a police spokesman told AAP.

"A 39-year-old man received gunshot wounds to the chest and thigh, one in the chest and one in the thigh."

Ambulance officers transported the man to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The police spokesman was unable to say if the shooting was bikie-related.

"It's too early to determine that," he said.

No one else was injured in the shooting and a crime scene was established by police.

Police are appealing for witnesses but no description of suspects or vehicles has been released

There were some interesting comments on 6pr radio this morning in relation to these new laws and whether we need them here in Perth. One listener commented that she was more afraid to walk the streets of perth at night for fear of being beaten up by hoods hanging around in northbridge, she had nothing to fear from bikies and that our government should concentrate on making our streets and our own homes safe from the criminals that break in and terrorise us in our own homes and recieve pathetic sentences for there crimes. The problem with this is it is too hard to identify these people so they pick an easy target like bikies.
