Enforcer,, mate,,it's just run in,,,whilst there's nothing like the feel of a new bike, your own becomes an extension of yourself, besides you then have to re-bling it if you're an anal prick like me. Harley's perform better with a few clicks on the dial, (a bit like yours truily), s'pose I can't talk though as I bought a newie and have spent heaps to get it where it is and doing around 20000 p/a............some nice models out now though..........

Hows your Deluxe performed? Have you had any issues mechanically, or has it been all smooth sailing...er riding? I love my Deluxe but I also think maybe she'll still be worth something before 50 or 60 thousand k's, and maybe I'd like one of those fandangled Road Kings with ABS and airbag suspension and cruise control and, and, and! I reckon if you can get $23,000-$25,000 go for it.
What else are you looking at? Perhaps a Roadking?

You can still grab a handful of nostalgia with a Roadking Classic. Those beautiful spoked wheel with whitewall tyres. Not to mention impeccable Vivid Black paint with that comfy wide seat and windshield..I saw a silver one that sold last night for $25,100. Unbelievable!!http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=170310492263

gidday enforcer ,everybody hates change,i reckon you have to figure out the difference between emotion and money ,if you love your bike , an engine build isn't that expensive ,and you probably added a bit of bling along the way , how much would it cost to buy another one [and add the bling ] besides harleys keep there value pretty well , think obout it for another year,

So Trev are all those Kilometers yours on the Deluxe?
Mines not even 12 months old yet and its just clicked over 15000k's which is pretty slack for me.
I just got my bike riding and feeling comfy. I dunno if I could get rid of a bike once it fits me.
A new one needs all that work, money and they chew more juice when they are new and they sound poxy, but a new one does still have appeal especially a Road King classic or maybe a streetglide.
    Damn hard choice really.
Mine goes a bit better than a Road King or streetglide, so for now I would stick with mine.

I went through this before I sold my Sportster. It was the love of my life, and was set up perfectly for me. I have no regrets about dropping shitloads of money on a new(ish), bike, but often look back on how much fun we had on the Sporty. You become emotionally attached. Very hard to describe!!

Kiwidave, why do you say only pre twin cam cases were made to last forever, does that mean I can't keep my twin cam forever, cause that was the plan ??

Mate, sold my 95 Heritage in 07 bought a newby last year. The old girl had close to 300k on her and I've got lots of photos and memories of the places she took me. No rebuild just normal wear and tear parts over the years. I'm bleeding I sold her.

PKSHED, you had 300,000 k's on a 95 Heritage!!! That's 21000 k's per annum. Most cars don't do that in a year.. So when you say normal wear and tear, did you do a top end? Rings, pistons? What about cams, cam bearings? What oil did you use, and how often did you change it?
I reckon that is bloody fantastic!!! I wish I could do 21000 k's per year.

Love my 05 Deluxe... bought her new... and she's going on 67 Thou... have another HD in the garage... and she's a total different ride in itself... but could never part with my Deluxe (Black Betty).. there's things I can do and been able to do on her that I just can't on other's I've found... it's like we work together...

So the only answer is to add to the stable... fuck me... what with rego and insurance... no wonder I have all these side/extra jobs on the go... gotta pay the bills...!?

Was looking to get an old shovel or evo and do a slow project in the garage... something more in my way... Old School... but at the same time... wouldn't mind one of those Street Glides... I see them as a bit of a hot rod... or maybe an Ultra... but if I bought one of those... it would only be for touring.. cause my Deluxe is just way too much fun..!?

I read you response with a smile on my dial!! Good to hear you are enjoying your girl, as I enjoy mine.. I guess in your case it's "treat her mean, and keep her keen". Whereas, my girl is pampered a little more... Ride safe!!

Good to hear!! I've been reading too much bullshit on the US forums...I reckon the more you ride them the better they get! Let us know when you get to 100,000k's,

    Ride Safe!

Being that i havent owned a HD for long , i wont comment on what others should do with their HD's . but @ the present moment , i bought my Harley to keep & wont even consider selling or trading up in the future . IMO Harley Davidson's only get better with age & as was said in a earlier post , HD's become a extension of yourself with time & miles clocked up ..
