Do I or don't I - HELP!

We (minister for finance and I) took a trip to the stealers today, and had a look at a few bikes. Even got her to try the 883L, and surprise, surprise...it fitted her rather vertically challenged frame very well. So all's going well. I think I have her convinced that we go out and buy her a 250 and in no time she'll be riding around on a real bike.

Or so I thought.  Then she happened to look at the Ultra in Green and Cream, and fell in love with it. She has now given me a couple of options.

    1. Trade the Wideglide on the Ultra

    2. Sell the new Honda Civic I bought for her 6 months ago (because she was sick of driving a shitbox) and buy the Ultra and she'll drive one of the other two shitbox cars.

    3. Sell the shitbox cars and keep the Wideglide and buy the Ultra.

So I am faced with a Trilemma(?) I need advice on what to do. I don't want to give up the Wideglide, so option 1 is out. So basically,

Who wants to buy a 1999 AU Falcon wagon or a 1999 XH Falcon Ute? How about a 2007 Honda Civic?

Another problem is if I get the Ultra, she will always want to take it on rides, and I won't get to ride the widey. And she will never get her licence and thus her own bike.

Help me............ I don't want to miss the opportunity of getting a new bike, either. And the Ultra would be good for trips up to Rocky and back...

My Harley is for me, it's my time.....
I'll ask the misses if she wants to come for a run.........
    If she does, great........
    If she doesn't, great......
Do what you want to do.......
Get her a 250, get her up and going.......
    Get her an 883L.........
    Keep the Wideglide......

I can't imagine you on a granny glide Laurie, even if you were old enough and you did ride slow enough for one.
Make her get her bike license she will be off ya back and she can find out how shitful other car drivers are, it will make her a more observant driver.
Or take a nap get the granny glide and then have another nap etc etc.

Anyway you're not alowed to get a granny glide before I get my streetglide.

Thanks for all the advice. After a couple of beers last night, I sat her down and sorted some shit out. It is apparent now that she is scared of getting her bike license, (and she doesn't want to be like Big Momma yesterday) so the Sporty is out (for the moment).

Peter, yeah they are shitboxes, but she is more concerned about the annual rego, maintenance and insurance bills.

Flan, putting the foot down is the way to go...as is keeping the ute. I have spoken!

    So the current scenario is:

Offload two cars, take a Granny Glide for a good test ride two up, have a nap, play some bowls, place an order.

Lofty, that one of yours looks great and is the right price, but it ain't the right colour - damn, probably have to wait for one.

Trev, put up with getting wet once in a while has never been a problem - especially with Dave's forecasting prowess.

I figure if I get the GrannyGlide, that's the biggest hurdle out of the way. I could always sneak in a little 250 later (for commuting purposes), get her riding, then upgrade her to the Sporty.

What's wrong with 3 bikes in the garage? We did have four once before. It could be a problem when I have to decide which one to take for a spin, and then there's the washing and polishing.....where's the Bikini Bike Wash????

Paul C has the right idea - a trip around Oz.. haven't had much of a holiday in recent years so that would be the way to go.

All's well in the Wideguy household - ring the Stealers today and book that test ride..

i think she would be surprised how easy it is to learn to ride
not to mention how much she would enjoy being fee and able to choose what she does. she could always go on the back whenever.
sounds like your plan is pretty good though, at least you get to keep the widey. sneaking in a 250 later for her would be a real nice touch providing she can overcome her fears. i know a few older ladies find that being the hardest part

What happened to the days when ya just did everything on the one Harley, I'm a bit confused ?? You can do everything on the Wide Glide that you can on the Ultra, a coupla saddlebags and off you go to the Great Ocean Road two up in comfort. I just got back from a 2000km + trip on an 05 Z1000 (mate was on a Speed Tripple) and it's seat is nothing like the Widey. So If ya want a new bike why not buy something different like a Buell so you can at least scare the shit out of yourself on the weekends. Just my 2 cents, feel free to ignore me, most people do. Oh yeah Laurie, I tried to ring you a cuppla times. Did your daughter give you the message ??

    Pete,

Ya gave the daughter a message?  Thats like giving the Greens ya vote - nothing happens with it. I quizzed her about it and she said "Oh yeah some guy did ring for you a while ago"  Farkin good thing it wasn't Gold Lotto! PM me your number again, I've changed mobiles.

A Buell would be sweet, so would a Duke, but couldn't ride em with the rooted knee - limits me on a lot of bikes.

Wideguy, the ultra would be nice to cruise on Tassie roads when you make the trip down. I read on a previous post of yours that you were planning a trip from Sept onwards but that will be too cold for you Brissy chaps. November to April is ideal but even then you can get all four seasons in one day. Sorry we didn't reply your other post but me and GOZZ have been busy enjoying the tassie roads.
