Great to see your still with the project. (We all need a good nurse from time to time)

Re your brake issue you may want to take a look at this.

Nice to see Dave is just about done and will be on the road for Winter :)

In all seriousness, well done. Those hard yards should taste sweet when cruising, knowing a lot of your parts have been replaced/repaired and should give you some green lights for a lot of miles.

    Hey MJ,
No offense meant to Twinny riders,
the operative words were "that gets his oil changed at the dealership."
At least some try to work on them, and there are good mates who I wouldn't let near a bike
when it came to work on them, for their own safety. No matter what bike they owned.
Try "but if you spray WD-40 on the rotors they won't rust." Took me 15 minutes to explain to him
    "F&^%^ Baaaaad Idea!!!!!".
Agree on the pub bike, except the seat springs would have to be LARGE. And a coffin tank w/ octagonal oil bag,
Shit, we all can dream, can't we?

    Hi Dave,
Ok, you've gone through master cylinder, lines pads, disc, hub.
    Shit, whats left.
Now, brake is locking up, has warped one disc already. This points to a
misalignment somewhere. Is the caliper able to move freely? Check side
to side movement on the pins and eye out pad to disc surface alignment.
Now lets go way off center, Swingarm Bearings OK? Swingarm Bent?
The square tube swingarm used from when they went to disc brakes in the rear
was prone to bending out of shape. I changed the one on my 81 to an earlier
round swingarm fitted with a wilwood caliper mounted on the bottom.(minor
amount of grinding on the S/arm to fit and then powdercoat paint to make it look good)
A mate had a 79 Lowrider and was not at all mechanically minded. He was
having trouble with his rear brake, and a couple of us got together and took a look.
Swinarm felt funny, took it off and the rusted remains of his bearings fell out!!!
Cleaned it up, new races, bearings and seals (well greased) and his brake problem
left him. He reckoned the bike handled better too. Go figure!!!!
(Harley Wheel bearings ,also neck and swingarm.: Timken LM11949.
    Seals (wheels): O.D 1.780, I.D 1.125 .05 Thick)
    Cheers,
    Cris

    Hi Dave,
Been mulling over this brake thing.
A couple of thoughts, 1st : check the master cylinder cover's vent hole is not plugged up.
2nd : check that the axle is riding straight and level in the swingarm. I seem to remember there was a
support on the nut side and if that was missing the axle could be riding at an angle (slight but enough
    to cause a problem).
    Cheers,
    Cris

Hey Dave, are you crazzzzyyy!!!!! Don't ever tempt the Harley Gods by saying you can diagnose any old shit.
They'll make shit happen!!!!. Quickly throw some harley oil over your left shoulder, turn to the left three times whilst chanting Willie G, Willie G, Willie G and hope they forgive you.
On a lighter note mate, i'ts great to hear the good news. Ride Safe.

    Hi Dave,
Never ending story isn't it?. Glad to hear it's running good.
1982 Sturgis had a really classy combo. Black paint with gold pinstripe and
the harley shield tank emblem in gold. Have a factory brochure pic if you want it.
Call me when you get back to OZ Re: HI-4 and coil.

    Yes Dave, the great unknown!!!

Yeah m8, it's a scary zone indeed. By now you and your Shovel have travelled too far to part company.

And not only do you know more about your bike (though it was a rough way of learning), I bet a certain bond has formed there.

That Disc Glide  was just a very interesting proposal, and believe me, if I could afford it as a project I would.

    Looking forward to the pics.

    Regards,

    Cris

Seaeagle's purple haze will be nicknamed (at least by me) Billy - as in Billy Slater. The best thing in purple... and he gave it up the gary glitter to the Sea Eagles that noone likes 4 times on Friday night, delicious.

Seriously though, great to see you three shovelhead lads that I met in the past 12 months making great inroads with your bikes. I've had more interest in your outcomes than any of the usual EFI shtick dominating the place. A shovel rebuild beats a USB reprogramming any day!
