Best way to get twin disc front on Dyna???

    I need more braking power.

I've noticed that there are Dyna Lowrider models (e.g. 1994 model's in bikesales etc) that had a twin disc set-up.

Can you tell me if I can fit this models forks /// or how I can get that double disc set-up /// on my 2008 Dyna Superglide Custom?

I'm presuming that the twin disc are 2 x discs of the same size etc as my 1 x single current disc, therefore almost double the front end braking power.   (?)

As always, any help, facts or good ol' speculation appreciated.

twin discs give better balance in brakin with equal pressure on both sides of forks like stix says $ twin setup ,better to go 4or6 piston single caliper if budget in mind

I have a Lyndell composite rotor (Expensive now $650USD was $500USD) and pads which made a huge difference and am now taking out a second mortgage on another rotor, Fat Bob lower fork legs, Brembo calipers (As fitted to the V-rod), 11/16" master cylinder etc etc... I have all the parts and should be putting it together in the next month or so. Also heard from Bunbury HD that V-rod fork legs are easier but still need modifying. The Fat Bob legs have a different mount for the front guard which entails slotting the holes + the caliper mounts are slightly off compared to my 2007 Dyna so will require machining to center the calipers on the disc. A lot of stuffing around I know - so as discussed above. Big bucks / improved braking / a more balanced front end / better looks - your choice.

Bugger! Sorry to hear about all your hassles with Lyndell. I was lucky to be able to pick up my parts in California at an HD dealership which dealt with them all the time. I have the Red plus pads on the composite rotor and the Z plus on the stock rear rotor. I haven't had any issues with the chrome buttons - I was hoping to get some black buttons for the twin disc set up, so will ask about the flaking issue.

Been about a year now and all has been good - braking definately improved so am hoping even more so with the twin disc - we'll see!

Good luck with getting it sorted...

Yeah pads just ain't going to do it for me boys.
Bigger calliper would be great, but I'm sure if I keep an eye on wreckers etc that I can come up with a twin disc option one day.

I'm happy to invest up to around $2k for the right set-up (??) as the front braking is the only major let down in my bike after having ridden her hard for 7,000 klms.

So nobody's mentioned the LowRider, I figure this is possible, the FaBob is a good tip and they are cross-drilled and you can get black lower forks which are cool, and the vRod is a good option coz you get a more modern set-up and sexy Brembo's.

Good info / thanks for posting / keep it coming.

    Gidday All,

I have an 05 FXDX, it came with twin disc front end. I always felt the bike was under braked (not enough feel etc). I ended up warping one of the rotors.

I have just fitted a set of Brake Tech Axis rotors they cost around $800us for the pair. I scored a set of 4 piston 4 pad Brembo calipers off a 748R Ducati on
eBay for $540au. I use Ferodo pads. This set up is incredible, the feel is amazing. I now only use one or maybe two fingers for even the heaviest of braking.
Service from Jeff at Brake Tech is excellent, they only took 3 days to ship the rotors out. They also have a kit for $80us that will mount the Brembo calipers to
standard HD fork mounts. They line up a treat, no shims were needed for caliper alignment. In fact they can supply a complete brake kit for around $1400us,
it contains two Brembo calipers, two Axis rotors, two mounting adaptors and mounting hardware in your choice of finishes. They have kits for many Harleys.

I'm not a salesman for Brake Tech nor do I have anything to gain, I am just truly impressed by their product. Best brakes ever!

Yeah LOVE to see some pics. Sounds good. http://www.braketech.com/cruisers/AXIS-SuperAxe-Rotors.php

So i'm still wondering what models/forks/front ends I can just plug into mine?
e.g. FXDX, can I just plug the whole front fork set-up in? is the master cylcinder etc the same?

    More info from USA if ur interested;

    >>>>>>

    Thank you for the note back XXXX;

Although the larger 320mm will sure be an improvement over the standard 11.5" unit by virtue of the fact that the moving the caliper out on the radius increases the leverage on the wheel. Moving the fulcrum point alone will likely not result in a large improvement (roughly speaking, that represents less than a nine percentage increase), only an incremental one.
If your goal is a substantial improvement in overall braking performance, then the dual disc path is the one that will get you there.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks again,

l recall reading in heavy duty about a year back , Harley City in Brunswick they were doing a conversion , take the standard right leg weld the caliper mount brackets on for the right side caliper, machining the leg after welding to get rid of the daggy bits, adding the disc, caliper, double brake line,& l think the master cylinder, all the parts needed, but l think the price was wrong at $500-$600.. l remember thinking thats a bit cheap,, probably for the welding/machining of the leg only...but you could enquire....

I found this good post on Twin Disc conversion. Sounds like V-rod is way to go.

Anyone in AU done this recently? Anyone know about doing a Fbob conversion instead??

Neither the v rod, nor the fatbob, setup work directly on single disc dynas
the fatbob lowers certainly fit without mod, but they have a different guard mount(1.5 inch centres, as opposed to 1 inch), and the caliper mounts are further inboard
the guard does have room to redrill, and the harley style caliper mounts are substantial enough to machine to fit

the vrod wheel, and the streetbob wheel(a hub/hub wheel, unlike the hub/nub superglide) share the same wheel mount kit, and distance between rotors
    and the mounts are compatible
but the vrod uses a different size dampner rod, which is also shorter.... you can correct this by using wide glide staunchions , which are 2" longer(when using the v rod dampener)
some use a spacer with a male thread...... reminds me of the old days with the slugs to extend the forks.... would not be my preferred method
the lower vrod leg itself is also shorter, and this lowers the guard, though the mounts are 1' centres

the range of similar and dissimilar parts continues between the two, some annoying, some irrelevant

there is a variation between brembo model years, that can lead to brake "overbite" if the wrong ones are used

no matter which way you go, it is not a direct fit

a vrod front end will absolutely slide out of the vrod, and straight into the dyna(the look is not identical due to the variations mentioned above)

due to the extra width of the fatbob front, it does not slide in, but would look more " factory dyna" like when complete

Personally, I do not really like the v rod slider look on the dyna...... it looks too short to me, like you have overs on it
    but each to their own

Try Taraqtmi on USA ebay, single disc brembo bolt on for US$190 plus a good deal on Brembo disc's if you ask for it (used to be about US$220) for 12.5 inch rotors bolt on, all new,  freight extra. Search "Harley Brembo" on USA ebay.
