ok, after suggestions from people on how they stay warm when riding in the colder months

this morning I was riding and it was nice and early in the morning ..clear blue skies, sun shining yet freezing bloody cold

my lower legs were frozen by the time I got home ..not even a warm shower helped ..I have long johns but wasnt wearing them, and even thought about how effective they would have been whilst I was riding this morning

so what do people do, apart from not riding at all, to stay warm in the colder months

    RKC,

I find a full face helmet makes a lot of difference in the cold as you are not breathing in the cold air. A face mask works the same way but to a lesser degree. But I find with the face mask my glasses fog up so I don't generally use it.

but what about legs KC .. I was using a facemask this morning and that really wasnt the issue

due to the riding position it was more the knees and lower legs ..I had jumper on, leather jacket and vest on and a dry as a bone jacket on ..top half was warmish lol

I travelled about 90 odd k's and by halfway my legs were feeling it, funny thing was the feet didnt feel cold, just the lower legs

but I do understand about the full face tho ... that forehead gap between sunnies and helmet can get cold enough to bring on a headache

    Mal,

Was thinking about the granny glide too and the lower fairings, but I love the road king too much to give it up

could always look at getting lower fairings for winter months lol

    Cold weather ???

We don't have that problem up here, it got down to 24 last night. Only thing I can suggest is to move further north or ship the bike up here and ride it around suuny queensland on your days off.

if you were cruising the country and don't mind taking you cold feet away from your brakes, tuck your legs in tight on your back pegs

You lived in Townsville for 5 years? 5 minutes is long enough. I have just moved from Cairns to Tamworth so i am going to find this post very helpful. Its cool here now and its not winter yet.

Play safe boys and suit up with a hip flask followed but some fleecey jeans, with a cheapo set of yellow plastic rain pants and matching onsumble jacket.

We have only had 3 meters of rain so far this year, doin well.

If all ous fails, drop on on the local grocer and grab some cling wrap and spend 5 minutes and waterproof yourself

Get some more leather mate. I've a pair of leather chaps in my bags all the time while touring. They come out when it's cold. And before anyone starts with the Village People crap ... they work bloody good, especially with long johns under the jeans. Greasy wool socks up to the knees and a jacket which will allow a jumper underneath and silks under my leather riding gloves. Toasty warm. Oh and they're cheaper than full leather trousers and when it gets warm, easy to remove and put back in the bag.
