Screamin eagle race tuner

I have ben looking at buying  a Screamin Eagle Race tuner package but don't like the idea of paying the high price they now want.

Can anyone who has the package clear up something for me, it is only software and cable for your computer to enable you to rewite the engine management

There isn't anything which has to be fitted to the bike permanetly, like a module that is  plugged in the wiring loom and left  there while you are riding

I know that once connected it locks the software to the bike Vin number and can't be used on any other bike.

What is the software set up procedure, is the any registation with the screamin eagle site

Why I ask, is that if it only the software, it should be able to patched to allow the package to be used on other bikes

    any info would be appreciated

Well my veiw is that this is highway robbery, Harley is holding everyone who has a new harlay to ransom

I was quoated $800 for the SERT package, I have been looking in the states on ebay and they are going for half of this.

If the software pacakge is going to be this expensive, then it should be a dealer tool and able to be used on multipe bikes by the dealers which I think monkeying around with the computer should be anyway.

There is no reason why it had to be locked to one bike other than a method of extracting cash form every Harley owner in the world.

G'day Peter, I got mine off ebay $438.00 aussie delivered to my door from the U.S. The later kits don't come with cables. The part number on the box 32107-01h and when I took it to the dyno guy he pointed out that the disc was for a later model again. I had a few issues with the bike addressed including the heat issue, slight surge at fixed throttle at low speed, the active exhaust valve disconnected, popping through the exhaust on de-acceleration. when i picked it up all the issues had been addressed at the bike runs fine, didn't notice a great difference in power but it is a lot smoother.

peter i live in newcastle, i got the sert from frasers i think it the best unit for the harley ,its not a piggy back unit like the others ,the only problem i have found is some one who can tune with it . in most cases they just put the closest map in but without a dyno and the knowlege to get it spot on . we might need to fly stix over here.

Kensim, I had some work done years ago by a bloke at Wallsend, bloke had a great reputation then and did great work on my old Dyna. Specialised in Harley's, Memory is abit foggy but I know the name Green is right, looked it up on the yellow pages and the map seems to show it in the same area that I went. "Greens Cycle Works" Unit 1/ 46 George St, Wallsend, NSW, 2287, 49500483. A phone call will let you know if this place can do what you need.

there is only two choices in Newcastle, Frasers and greens, frasers are able to do basic setups for stock type items but any fine tuning will have to be greens but here is booked solid, one workmate is trying to get booked in and has been told about 7 weeks to get in. The only other choice is to go to Sydney and find someone with a dyno

I will be a couple of weeks before I can fork out the money for the sert, have been told it is ok to run the new screamin eagle slipons without any changes to the map so long as I leave the air filter kit off.
I was running a K & N Hi flow kit with A V&H fuelpack and pipes, but I put it back to stock when taking the pipes off.
There is another thread with that story

    Thanks for those part numbers

Just rang Peter Stevens in Adelaide was told the disk and any hardware don't come with the race tuner , they have there own  and if you want one you havce to purchase one  seperate. Not happy  bike was back firing when in the hills and being ridden hard  it backfired on decel in the lower gears . Workshop manager said he's symphaphetic has the same discusion 10 times a day but its Harleys discision not to supply the disk and has been for 12 months .

I was going to take it for a dyno tune  and get it set up  was willing to pay for it and  hopefully  come away with a bike running perfect , guy going to do the tune comes highly recomended ,  (Lush from victor harbour ) he said he needs the disc to do the job, they say they don't give them with the tuner anymore ,

End result i have now said i'm not willing to pay for a disc and want it fixed under warranty , will say Blair the workshop manager had no problem with that and said to bring it in next week .

Not happy about this disc bullshit  was going there next week to buy a new Triumph Rocket tourer  thats definetly on hold  for now though .

Just rang around a few more dealers , same story they stopped giving them 12 months ago , although suprise suprise the new super tuner , does come with the software , but the real big suprise  it cost more.

Got too say my first Harley , had too put different shockers on to get it right, did'nt mind , spent a grand on breather and tuner to get it to perform the way it should, no problem you like bikes its what you do , willing to spend money to get it tickled to run better ,no worries .

But have too spend money to get the software too do it especially software that should come with it,  thats overboard , starting to feel like Harley have spanked my arse good and proper, not happy  only good thing is Peter Stevens workshop manager has agreed the backfire can be fixed , but he says it will be at the expense of power , don't want to lose the power thats why i done the race tuner pipes and breather  in the first place , Bit of a lose lose situation ,

Not being mechanicly minded or capable makes it a bit hard the dealer says if they set the map to get rid of the backfire it will alter  the power and dyno tune will not solve it has they only tune for more speed  , the guy who does the dyno says it  a dyno tune will give you optimum power and probably get rid of the back fire.

Don't know , really  thinking easiest thing to do is just leave  alone  a bit of popping and gurgling is'nt really a problem to me and , backfiring well just  suppose i better stay out of the twisties and when i am in them  ride it like a scooter,

I was rapped in the street bob  wanted it running to perfection , but fack i hate having my arse spanked , at least the guy doing the dyno did say he has some software  bring the bike down and if it works on my bike he may be able to do the job, But fack i won't be spending on the accessories like i planned to don't want to give Harley davidson ANY MORE MONEY .than i have too.

Guys i am in a bit of a predicament also,My low rider sounds like a powder puff and i need to change the pipes for a Harley sound if you get my drift.

The only problem is that because it still has a lot of warranty on it,i have to fit one of these screaming eagle tuners as to that way i wont lose my warranty,as i have been told by frasers.

Frasers Perth have quoted me about $900.00 for it and then i have to get the pipes and screaming eagle air filter, all up if they don't do it and something goes wrong with my bike,i am up the creek without a paddle.
But what are we getting for out $900.00?
Because if i had it my way i would just get a power comander and leave it at that and at least i get something for my money,as from what i am reading i dont get much with the sert????????????

Hey Dazza, thanks for the input,i just downloaded the screaming eagle catalogue and they also have a screaming eagle pro race fueller, which is probably something similar to a V&H fuel pack or a dobeck unit,am not sure if they fit my model though (08 lowrider) - All i want to do is put pipes on and a better breather,i am not after super power as i just cruise along, but to have to spend $900.00 just to fit pipes(for the Harley sound) its just a little steep.

    Hi Travelling,

search the workshop on feedback on the Fuelshot. A darn site cheaper than the SERT and will do all you require it to

    Cheers

Mate get a set of slip ons.. V&H screamin E or the like. Put em on yourself, Ring Mick at big joes and get the FuelShot. Put it in yourself. Get a 1499 K&N air filter and put it on yaself. All up around $900 and your warranty is safe as a church, trust me. All for the total price Frasers want to charge to fit their bling thing.

Hi Guys and thanks to you all for your input,as i can see from nearly everyone that has input about the screaming eagle race tuner,is that it does the job but IS way over price because the dealers are taking advantage of us.

I have to admit i don't mind fitting things to my bike, but my knowledge of tuning is pretty limited as that was why i had Frasers quote me on the set up.

I have seen Micks web site about his fuel shot and i agree it will probably do the job at half the price, but it is me setting it up that scares me and all those cables and plugs i have to plug in,not to mention if i fit the mufflers i think you have a spare one left over,so what do i do with that. They don't call me sex fingers for nothing and also the worry if something on my bike does shite itself and i have to get warranty work done on it,i am up the creek.

I admit that things going wrong with bikes wit are slim, but i have had issues before and then  the dealers just don't want to come to the party ,because of the extras i put on,even though it had nothing to do with the problems.

It really pees me off that when we do buy a bike and a damn expensive one, that it sounds like a sewing machine and all i want to do is make it sound better and like it should.

I just don't know what to do,as one part says buy the parts and do it myself and the other says pay the dollars, but if you were to get the parts fitted by anyone else apart from a dealer is it still covered by warranty, meaning if say i took to another HD mechanic(professional) and they fitted it all, would i still have my warranty.

Again,Dazza, stix68,sophtayl ,FXSTD.AU,PKSHED,sycle1,Scotty,many thanks for all your input,as i am really dumb in this area. Cheers

Hey Hogman1949 how you doing,I knows where you are coming from,as it really is a pain in (you know where)when dealing with these dealers and there rules.

I have ordered a set of S/E mufflers and the S/E pro super tuner plus air cleaner kit from the guys and gals at www.gsmc.com.au as they gave me the best price and non of the bull Frasers were saying.(plus cheaper)

Hopefully if everything works out in the next month or so i will ride down to Albany and get the guys to fit it all, otherwise i have to go to Frasers, but i really want to steer clear of them as there crooks and i dont like there attitude.

Hope it works out well for you hogman,as it really is a W.A Harley rort, at what we have to pay and i know how you are feeling..
