So I just got back from a 2000 km trip down south with a mate through Beaudesert, Lismore,Tenterfield,Coffs,Dorrigo,Port Maquarrie,Walcha,Uralla,Grafton,Ballina,Nimbin, Murwillimbah and then we heading home cruising on the speed limit through Nerang in an 80 zone following a little red car with a hard hat and a teddy bear on the back dash doing 60km hour in said 80 zone. It was a 3 or 4 km stretch with double lines and after 2 km we got sick of this guy and rolled around him and sat back on the 80km speed limit. Six km's later the little red car with the hard hat and teddy bear pulled us over. C@#T.  He said we were lucky we didn't speed after we passed him because he likes booking motorcycles twice. C@#T. $180 and 3 points each C@#T for crossing double lines. He also said we were lucky he didn't book us for having cylindrical rego label holders and said the fine would be $300 which we discovered to be bullshit. He then said goodbye and proceded to do a U -TURN accross double lines on a dangerous bend. I F@#KIN hate em.

Defence depends a lot on the convo you had with him, most of the johnny whopper record their chats on highway pullovers. I'm amazed you both stopped when he nicked you. "Which one?"

A possible defence, depending on your state rules is to see if he acknowledges he was well under the limit and then just take an approach that yes you lane splitted, but not exceeding the limit or crossing the double-lines. That is, if a lane split misdemeanour is a lesser penalty..? It might just get thrown out if the original infringement book is squashed by this. Worth talking to fully fledged one or two ambulance-chasers, you are after all dealing with the lottery of magistrates.

Good points made here, I'll talk to my mate and we might pursue this a bit further. And Maddas, he was wearing police overalls without a hat,  I am going down the coast today with the Missus so I will take pictures of the bend he did the U-turn on. My mate talked to the Brisbane Police and this guy was in the room when he was on the phone, yep, Brisbane traffic cop working in Nerang. I spoke to Deception Bay police and the cop on the phone said he wouldn't try to follow someone to fine them twice and also explained that the Transport Dept has decided the rego holder is legal and told me that the $300 fine he threatened us with is bullshit even if they were illegal. I would like to know why he didn't fine the car doing 60km in an 80 zone ? Makes me wonder if it was an unmarked car as well, because he kept saying things like "we" usually fine bikes twice when they pass us.

    Fight it in court Pete.

I had the same thing happen in Sydney years ago, I was riding along the Old Rd (Pacific Hwy) which is doulbe lined for ages, and the filth were in an unmarked purple Magna travelling at 40 - 50 Kmph and moving slightly over to the left as if to say pass me. We overtook and then the lights & siren came on and the bullshit started about dangerous overtaking and blah blah blah.

I took it to court and fought it on the grounds of dangerous driving by the filth and that he was kicking up stones by moving to the left Etc Etc. The judge agreed with me and said the charge bordered on entrapment and let me off with no conviction or penalty.

No fucken respect for the filth no more.

Yeah it might be worth a try, I'll see what the mate reckons, it should be more convincing with two of us. Thanks for the advice fella's. Like I said to the HERO when he was handing us the ticket - we just finished a 2000km ride and we come back to QLD and Bingo, welcome home guys.

At the very least if you take it to court he'll have to show up and waste his time as well as his space and the air he breathes. There'll be one less asshole on the road, for a while at least.

If you've got a couple of hundred thousand lying around ,and you want to prove that you were right at all cost, then persue it in court. Otherwise buy some strong pepperments to get the taste out of your mouth and put it down to experience.

beat me to it !!! ENTRAPMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,is the word alright!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. just another small point ! i have been led to believe that rego labels don't have to be displayed on the bike , as long as it is made available on request.maybe just a vic. law.give us an idea right or wrong???

Hi Dave, sorry about the late response, we were away for the weekend. The fine says Nerang - Murwillumbah Rd, Mount Nathan. We were spotted after the Beachmont turn off  and a km or two before the left turn to Canungra, then he followed us and pulled us over about 4 km after the left turn to Canungra, it was Sunday.

Talking about Jap Jockies, that was us Dave, Z1000 and a Speed tripple but it wouldn't have made an ounce of difference which bike we decided to ride with this prick. Yeah, the way he went about it didn't sit well with either of us, you should be allowed to cull them like roo's.
