I have just recieved the new 07 model Screamin Eagle slip ons for dynas which are street legal.

I am including the photos of the EPA stamping and both ends of the baffle for reference

The main part of the baffle is a pipe that is folded at its end to stop the through flow and holes in the side to pass the gases

    should keep the coppers happy

They will look better when they are on your bike

I've got these pipes for the Sporty and I've been pretty happy with them, I had a set of cycle shacks originally which were way too loud. Even after having these on my bike for a good 5 months I still like the sound of them.

now let me understand this, standard pipes have all these baffles to keep the noise down, but effect the performance of the bike. now if these slip ons have all the baffles to meet the epa restrictions, they may sound better, but wont the the performance be roughly the same as standard?

These pipes flow better and are louder than stock so therefore they give better performance, they're still not as loud as some and therefore not as good performing as some but I guess the issue is striking a balance between performance and keeping on good terms with your neighbors.

    Jim,
I got mine from Peter Stevens Adelaide, they were $550, I think they even knocked off 10% for me so ended up getting them for $500.

Thats my thought to, should be able to open up if they haven't welded the end down.

I got them on yesterday and went for a run up to stroud and back, the better breathing than stock and the bike isn't running hot like with the stock crap, but still too quiet, they are rated at 80 db in the states, we can go to 94 db here
A good starting point would be to pull out the baffles and add extra holes in the tube, they have 6 rows of 4 holes, should be able to add another set of 6 rows without giving away that they have been played with.

I was quoted $510 at frasers but got a discount for buying the bike with them, I think I paid $460

I had a Hi flow air filter kit and a V&H fuelpack fitted but I have removed them putting the stock pipes back on.

The bike is now stock except for the slip ons

I was told by frasers that these slip ons can be run without reprogramming so long as the stock airfilter is used as they are restrictive enough to keep the back pressure up.

I don't know if that is the same for the Screamin Eagles II slip ons

You might have to ask about them

The SE slip-ons on my 08 Softail HAD 6 rows of 5 8mm holes, I stayed with the 6 rows but added 2 more to each row at the rear and 2 more to the 2 rows opposite the the pushed in bit at the front. It is a little louder but not by much at idle and cruise but roll on from 3000rpm and it sounds much deeper and feels a little stronger. I can still hear the SE air cleaner, but only if I lean forward.

The entry to the baffle is a little under 16 sq cm, the total of the original 30 holes is a bit over 18 sq cm so if they are restrictive is only the packing doing it. Read lots on the US forum about blokes, sorry, it was US, GUYS removing the packing and without trying it I say DON"T do it, you will turn your mufflers into echo chambers. Also popular was drilling 1/2" or bigger holes in the pressed down bit. Hell you may well just remove the baffles if thats all you do.

I would like to try drilling the rows of holes all the way to the back and take the gas axe to the pressed down bit, this would let the sound waves travel along the baffle and into the packing just like a proper race pipe making around 102dbA or I could just buy some proper race pipes which is getting away from the whole good neibour thing.

Many of the posts on the US forum had shit loads of trouble removing the baffles. For some this started with trying to do it with the slip-ons still fitted, for all it was making a suitable tool to hit with a hammer. Am I the only bloke to try putting a big flat head screw driver against the front of the pressed in bit and belt the crap out of it? Of course if you sand off the sealant from each end they go back a lot easier.

Thanks Deadly for that little info, it sounds like a good starting point  to experiment with, I have to have a look on the US sites.

Panman, there is a thread on this fourm with the full details, but basically the cops are hitting anyone who's ehxaust isn't stamped with manufacturers name and the Db test results that comply to under 94Db

I had V&H big radius on, they don't comply
