Rocker wiring for LED indicators

I have been trying to throw on a set of LED indicators to the front of the rocker. I got a set of 69475-07. They are 3 Volt (Why 3 and not 12 volt ???)
So I wonder off to the local electronics shop and grab some 20 cent resistors, instead of the $200 box from harley.

I have been looking into the load equaliser issue and have found some issues with the wrong selection burning out the TSSM. Looks like the Badlands 3 is the go.

Which bring me to the question. WTF has HD done with the wiring for the back LED indicators and why didn't they run front LED's

Can I just run a wire from the back to the front and run it all on the one circuit, what voltage are the back indicators ??

For now I have relocated the original indicators to the forks but would like to get the LED's working.

Anyone out there looked into this one before ??

led's should run at any voltage between 6 and 48 volt......

load equalisers the ones at mca are good

Thanks MJ. When I hooked up the 3 V to a 12 V system I blew one of them. Need to reduce the voltage and take the amps from TSSM so it doesnt overload.

Load equaliser is designed to dump the unused power. It might be just easier to find a set of 12V for the front and work out the wiring and throw a multimeter on the back to findout what voltage they are running on. Been busy riding or working, to pull the back end apart.

    Thanks for the reply

    skulznflames, What LED's did U use ?

I thought by using Harley LED's they would just bolt up with load equaliser but HD made them in 3 V. Still have to get my shit together and pull the back end apart to follow the wires and find out what voltage I have running to the back indicators. Looks like I might have to get a workshop manual or parts book to find out how the run things and how the TSSM runs the back, which is different to the front.

the HD 3volt turn signals r a complete set and come with a module to run them, you cant run just front with them, any after market sets run 12v n require a ballast resister such as the badlands unit which adds the extra load required to keep the tssm working properly.

You are right in that they come with module if you order it and can fit it on your scooter. I however havea rocker and nuthin fits it.

To get the indicators on the forks I had to adjust (Butcher) a relocation kit from a V-Rod. The end result AI am happy with.

I will rebuild the faulty 3V LED's with 12 V and drop the Badlands in the curcuit. The unknown is the back indicators voltage as they are already LED. I will look into it one day when I have time. For now I am going to get everything ready again and do some homework on the rocker wiring system for the back and front indicators so I know what I am playing with.

    Thanks for the replies.

    Front relocation so far.

I have just fitted new mirrors on my 2008 FXDC with LED indicators built in and removed the original indicators from the bars.  They worked fine but flashed too fast so after visiting this forum and asking around I have the answer.

If you fit LED indicators to the front OR the rear but not both then a load resistor is all you need.  You can pick them up from MCAS for around 6 bucks.  Wired in parallel with the LED indicators they resolve the flash timing issue.

If you fit LED indicators to both the front and the rear indicators then a LED flasher relay will be what you require. Again, you can get them from MCAS for around $20.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

    Heyy guys!

I have bought a rocker and im having trouble with my rear turn signal. Basically some idiot took a scree driver and tried to pop off the lense for the rear turn signal. They obviously did zero research and only realised it wasnt supposed to come off when they had basically broken it. No worries they thought super glue will fix it all.... and it didnt. I have lost the lense in the street. I spoke to harley and they want to charge me 180 bucks per unit. RIDICULOUS. Im looking at going after market if i HAVE to buy a complete unit as if i am changing them i want them fully black and smoked. Do you recommend any? And do you know if someone out there does actually make just a lense cover for them?

    Thanks in advance
