CAM PROFILES -- WHAT, WHERE, HOW

    There has been a fair bit of discussion on CAM PROFILES over the last few weeks, so I thought I'd start a thread that will hopefully become a place where you can get your cam related questions answered as well as have a look at what workes for others.

    So if ya have changed your cam could you post some info about how it all went. The info could include but is not limited to:

    Make and profile of cam;

    What type of engine fitted to;

    What rev range is the cam best suited;

    What the bike is mainly used for (Touring, drags, fast town bike, coffe shop blasts etc)

    Any other modes done (cam related, ie adjustable pushrods, roller rockers, gear drive etc)

    Any other info you think would help.

    Thanks for your comments. I have added a Andrews cam profile table for a bit of a reference, if ya have something similar post it up.

    Cheers Rats

    Can anyone tell me what is the maximum lift that standard valve springs will take and remain durable?

    The andrews table suggests a lift of about .510 before you need to go Hi lift.

    Can someone shed some light on overlap / duration between intake and exhaust? I'm not sure I completely understand reading of the tables?

    Good steal wayne, thanks.

    Thats the plan mate. I like to have a go and am constantly mucking around with something. Its just that this something cost a lot more coin to start with which is why all of the annoying questions, but hey thats what it is all about. Enjoying the process, learn new stuff to keep the old grey matter working and having a good time doing it.

    Stix thanks for the reply, can you enlighten me on the 30 thou head gasket. What was the purpose (raise compression?)?

    RT - love the coffee sessions, it gives something new to plan each time. The wallet pain is the sort of pain ya get used to with these things I'm finding out!!

    these cams are boldt-in and designed for torque, low -medium, those who are using them seem very impressed :

    no wonder their High Lift cams are noisy, they are set at 0.650 !!!, that moves, baby.

    i am going for the bolt-in ones set at 0.510, that should be fine or there is something wrong.

    Hi Fredouil

    You will be happy with the T/max. I am stoked with what it has done for my bike. I want to put cams in that will liven up things a little and help keep it cool as well.

    Has anybody got specs on the Andrews 54, heard good things but can't find em even on the Andrews web site.

    The Andrews 54H is looking good, and the RPM range fits in well with where I spend a lot of time. I'm still working out what I want. I'm a pretty lazy rider these days and like to cruise along at a reasonable clip but have plenty in reserve for passing B-doubles in a hurry.

    Ive just had another check of the warrenty info page downloaded from the T/max. Most time spent at 2200 RPM. Some great info in there!!! Also moniters head temps and how long at each temp. The more I muck around with this thing I'm finding interesting things. I'm about to adjust the air fuel ratios Vs throttle position sensors to enrichen the AFR a little bit to see if temps come down a bit more.

    I'm pretty sure I'll go with the Andrews 37H at the moment. The 54H is also very interesting, but it comes on a bit further up the rev range (comes on later goes on for longer) than what I'm looking for I think.

    Should have the cam in by the end of March.... I'll let you all know how it goes.

    my stock 96 87hp 101tq with bolt in cam at 510 lift and pushrods ,with the exhaust,aircleaner,pc111,todd at pattos dyno reckons nearly 100.hp and 103 tq.without any major engine work,no change to cr,more fun in rebuilds like stixs and scottys ,but the power only good on the straights,nutts a mate had andrews 60s is changeing to 54s as not matched well with 103 ,so we ll havr agood performance site soon so keep it up fellas ,it depends on how you ride stixs is drag style ,rt is distance long hauls ,i like twistes ,3 different styles ,3 different motors so look for where you ride before u choose
