Anyone else had this problem ?
I have a mate on the north coast who is getting BAD rust on his Nightster spokes. The bike is only a bout 4 months old, and he looks after it meticulously. His local HD are saying they will replace the spokes, but not again should it happen again. I've spoken to my local HD guy, who says that its not uncommon, but that they wont warrant against corrosion on spokes.
Was just wondering if anyone else is having the problem ?
dc
Cheep shit spokes on the harley's , had the same on my 08 Dyna , i got Morgan's to replace the wheel under warenty ( took some bitching ) now the new wheel ( spokes ) are rusting aswell .
best bet is just replace with better quality one's .
Whilst there is warranty it shouldn't be a problem.
Well, I am unhappy and happy.
Unhappy because when I spend sixteen thousand bucks (plus ORC), on a brand new bike I don't expect the spokes on it to turn brown with rust after just a few months. (One dude from the dealership told me the rust would make its way through the rim and probably cause a blow-out of the tube. That was a big worry).
Happy because, finally, I have wheels that are not and will not rust (well I 'think' that's the case with alloy isn't it?)
All I have to do now is pay the dealer 800 bucks for the alloys!
Cheers.-Clem
Get some old towels or shirts, cover your brakes, and spray your spokes/wheels with Inox. Make sure you don't get it on your disc's though, or bye bye brakes.
I have found this Inox stuff (recommended by a coupla blokes in here), is brilliant.
Easy to apply and bike looks excellent.
The funny bit is, I use a paint brush to apply the Inox onto and into the motor fins to make em look all nice and also to keep that dreaded corrosion away, and next ride I go on, I've got all this smoke coming off the engine (and off the exhaust pipes which have also been 'well covered' in Inox).
The surplus Inox burns itself off after 10 or so kays.
Don't spose the bike will catch fire with all this happening??????
Clem....Inox wont catch on fire....I have used it for years on pro fishing boat motors, gearboxs and electronics,
also used to cover my trailbikes with it and now I use it everwhere on my Harley and wipe the excess off.
my bike was in south dakota for 3 years and i had no rust, but as soon as i moved to the east coast of georgia i am developing rust. not as bad as my freind , his nightster was stored in a shed at his brothers house while he was deployed to iraq, there was an open tub of chlorine in the shed sooo all of his spokes are solid rust . All of the aluminium on his bike is corroded. it was brand new when he put it in there.
