Helmet "USE BY" date?

I found out recently, from a retiring Motorcycle Cop, that helmet tags inside your skid lid have a manufactures date....(NOT a surprise) Well, from this date foward, your helmet, ($59 ......$900) is only legal for  5 years!  Whether you buy it off the shelf as old stock, or hang it in the shed for a rainy day,  legally,  5 years and you can kiss the sucker Goodbye......  My best fitting helmet is ILLEGAL, but it is the most comfy, and my next best is somthing like 15 years old, (holy shit)  but here in QLD, with the present upgraded fines and demerits, this lid could cost me $225, and 3 points! So I bought a M2R open face with a visor....(and yes, I now look like an American motorcycle cop?) but as ugly as the visor is, it holds the helmet down on my noggin, when I  get an attack of fastification, and you would be suprised at the shade effect on your eyes! Call me a nob, but it works, try it?

     Comfy Head.

well good ideas, but if it doesnt have both an internaland anexternal sticker that can be viewed it is illegal too.
my mate got done last year for 'not wearinga helmet' because apparently it was 'illegal' even though it was a harley genuine helmet that was only about 18mths old. he couldnt leave either until he had a 'legal' helmet dropped off to him.

In Victoria, for their wonderful annual $50.00 motorbike levy, they need to run a campaign educating us on this... would beat the lame one with re-enacted bike crash and the 'denim in the flesh' garbage.

I have a detachable visor that fits my two lids. It sat dormant for about 6 years but its back getting some action. Works in the wind and really earns its money into the western sun late in the afternoon.
