Tent stretched bed on a bike

    Ok ..after some advice as to what to travel with for sleeping whilst out and about 

    I have one of these tent stretcher beds and have used it before when 4wding crossing the Simpson etc and it was ideal 
    Now it got me thinking has anyone here saddled one to their bike and used it for camping 

    My primary concerns is the width at 1050 mm it sticks out about 100 mm on the left and right sides ( that's a bit too much i thought perhaps) 

    Weight is 12.5 kg.

    Id be really keen to see what peoples views are and particularly if they have used one themselves strapped to the back of their bike 
    Otherwise got to get a tent etc i expect

    Do you have panniers. I used to have a swag  that was 930wide. , so 1000 is not much more

    Can you get hold of a sissy bar and strap it on vertically ?

    Put it lengthways on tank and seat and ride it.

    No higher than a pillion hey ( I do have a pillion seat with a backrest but that wont be tall enough) - good tip so a sissy bar coudl be very handy

    OK.
    love any way to  make life easier, is smart. Can someone channel a 35 Kilo dog to travel on my motorcycle, safely comfortable, well for me, and humanely. My mate, is Staffie/Rohdesian Ridgeback/ Pink Nose (yeah  embarressing ) Pink Nose pit bull.. Harmless untill ya come near my motorcycle, car or us.... So he is like  a baby 2 years old, travel on mcycle. ?How?

    Hi b. Have dreamed of being able to take dog on motorcycle adventure. In sa at least you can have them on tank in front of you but only with exemption. 
    Otherwise crate or similar behind. I’ll look for a pic of a fellow carrying dog on back seat in harness that goes from tourpak to backrest. Prob easy to fab.

    Hey Balof, rode for years with a dog (Bull Terrier/Boxer cross) on the tank; but this was back in the late 70's and early 80's - not sure one would get away with it now. I'll see if I can dig out a photo if you like. On one trip interstate there was me, my dog, my GF of the time and she had a cat who rode down the front of her jacket. What a circus that ride turned out to be.

    Kato: a photo I dug out of my swag on a Z1R. I never did measure it but it looks about 800mm or a fraction more (generally those throwover bags measure about 700mm wide when on a wide seat like the Z1R.

    Pretty sure this one has been talked about before and the conclusion was dont worry about the swag. Too fukin big.
     Buy a cheap tent and good quality sleeping bag. Use your boots as a pillow.
    If youre a bit of a soft arse you can always bring a foam mat.
    Anything will be better than that monstrosity youre  thinking about putting on your bike.

    There's something pure about camping and the great outdoors. Getting to a remote, picturesque spot off the beaten trail. The views ,the connection with nature and the campfire. I remember a cold night in the high country that dropped below zero. The sleeping bag wasn't quite enough, the night's sleep was never uninterrupted nor was the almost hungover feeling the next day.That was in high school at a school camp, and those days of sleeping on uneven dirt, will stay forever entrenched in my past-never to be repeated. To those who love biking and camping-power to you .I love biking -the tent and shit that goes with the purity of camping has been compacted into a credit card ready to swipe at a motel.   
    ps Beagle, how do a pair of worn leather riding boots vaguely function as a pillow? As for the bit of foam?-it might as well be a black plastic sheet on a gravel driveway ...Looks like I'll fail SAS selection once again.

    I hear you brother!!! No swag and ants nest for me anymore, pub meal, shower and bed after a long day for me. Bonus if there's a telly.

    Here is the Sporty camped beside the Thompson River at Longreach, and the swag on the banks of Combo Waterhole a few days later, winter 1996. Traditional style swag, before they blew them up into tents, yoga mat cut down to shoulders to bum distance, good light hollowfibre sleeping bag, sheepskin for a pillow. Comfortable camping, 3 weeks on the road, with a couple of country pub nights, doesn't overload the bike.
