So this is why the Ref allowed the challenge according to the NRL.
Whether the bunker got it right is another matter and given those calls often go against us I'm happy to take it as a win, rub of the green as they say.

    Credit ABC.

Although the referee had blown his whistle to stop the game after the last tackle was completed as time had expired, he had not yet called fulltime," a spokesman said.
The NRL also claimed that while the escort penalty was not blown on field, the call of stopping play for the end of the match was able to be challenged by the Cowboys if they believed there had been foul play.

"The whole concept of the captain's challenge is to make sure any decision by the referee that stops the game can be reviewed," the spokesman said.

"To not do so would effectively deny a team the right to have an officiating error corrected."

The league said they would review on Monday whether The Bunker call of escort was a correct one.

I go into my beloved tigers games with the thought that if we get beaton by less than 30 points it's been a good weekend for us
But this game was riviting from my point of view
    Were we robbed....offcoarse we were

The bunker got that one wrong. The challenge was legal but the escort call was incorrect. Feel sorry for tigers but somedays your the pigeon, others your the statue....

Well a understrength Manly to field a team that some say is not of a 1st grade standard, may be a cricket score or a huge upset. I am going with the former.

The  bunker ref who ruled against Tigers has been dropped for this round. Ashley Klein is regarded the number 1 ref in the comp.

Have you seen what Ashley seen vid wise? I haven't I just heard what he was saying as he made the ruling as they really didn't show it much on the night, did he take a dive? Seriously I would love to know why he did rule that way as like you said he is ment to be the number one ref.

Yes looked at the footage of what he looked at.....the same block happens EVERY bomb and not pulled up. Kyle ran into the back of the blocker who never took his eyes off the ball, then milked the penalty. Its just a case of simply getting the call wrong sadly. Its in the history books now.

I understand the ref on field making a error as its happening in real time for them, but the video ref has no time limit and the benefit of several camera angles and slow motion.....fucked at how they seem to see something that 20000 fans and tv viewers cant.

Absolutely! Sadly players are now coached to play for these type of plays. We see it regularly now with tries denied because of a defender 10mtrs away from the try "obstructed" by a attacking player. All the defender has to do is throw themselves on the ground to claim the review regardless of how soft the contact was. Watch closely now at how often attacking players fall down/run into defenders/blockers when a bomb goes up....
I shook my head again last night about the inconsistently of refs/bunker calls with the Manly centres clear head high hit on a Rooters player in the first half. Last week it would have been a clear send off, this week a penalty. Later in the game a sin bin for a bit of push and shove for being the third man in....
