Buttoned key fob programming issue

Have a 2006 sporty and purchased a new push button fob recently as I've only got 1 but I feel like a fool because I can't for the life of me get my second fob programmed.

I go through all the procedure (on-off-on-off-on, left x2, right x1, left x1 then hold the button down until flashes then repeat process for the new fob) problem is the new fob simply won't register. I have tried using my original first and the n the new and vise-versa but nothing. I've also changed batteries and still nothing. I know the process is working because I don't have any problem registering the original fob. Does the fob need to be "activated" somehow before I can link it or could it be a defective fob?

    Cheers

New fob needs to be coded to the bike by dealer

I thought that was only for the keyless units?

I dunno about the keyed units but a fob is an immobiliser so wouldn’t that needed to be paired to the security module on the bike?

That's what I'm getting at. The pairing process is working for the original fob but not the new one. Everytime I go through the process I get a confirmation that I have paired the old fob but nothing happens when doing the same for the new fob.
